The Loss Mitigation Underwriter's primary responsibilities include underwriting and rendering loss mitigation decisions based upon a review of Borrower loss mitigation packages; includes but may not be limited to a review and verification of supporting documents, analysis of hardship, and calculating income and debts. The Loss Mitigation Underwriter will make determinations as to the strength of the mortgagor's economic situation to evaluate potential resolutions such as: modification, short payoff, short sale, deed in lieu of foreclosure, and forbearance, as well as, investor specific loss mitigation programs.
Essential Job Functions
• Review of Borrower loss mitigation packages for completeness and accuracy of documentation
• Assess Borrower current financial ability by calculating income , assets and debts utilizing client-based underwriting methodologies and investor-specific guidelines
• Calculate debt to income ratio and verify conformity to client and investor guidelines
• Render decision based on evaluation of the Borrower loss mitigation package
• Document loss mitigation decisions in the company's systems and Client servicing systems
• Ability to travel, if required
Requirements
• Must have demonstrative, relevant skills and experience in the mortgage industry. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of general servicing practices, current legislative directives, as well as general knowledge of loss mitigation techniques including initiatives under the Making Homes Affordable Act (i.e. HAMP and HARP, etc.)
• Excellent time management skills with an emphasis on quality
• Three-five years of residential mortgage experience, with an emphasis in default servicing and/or origination in at least one of the following areas; loss mitigation, loan underwriting, loan processing.
• Desire detail-oriented self starter with strong analytical skills
• Knowledge of mortgage documents, including loan closing documents preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
• Excellent organization skills required
• Exceptional computer skills
• Excellent communication skills, including impeccable written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment
• Hours may be flexible and may include weekends
