What happened to Lady Gruoch before her fateful marriage to Macbeth that led to her becoming one of Shakespeare’s most infamous and bloodthirsty characters? This play explores a possible situation that answers the questions about Lady Macbeth. Taking place in Scotland in the early 1000’s, the plot centers around Gruoch’s relationship with her father and the two main women in her life, and it goes into her meeting and beginning a relationship with Macbeth. After the death of her first husband, Gruoch must decide whether to obey her father’s wishes or try to start a life on her own, with her son. Her father will do everything he can to make her see it his way, but the ultimate decision is hers.
Cast of Characters:
GRUOCH- Queen of Alba, Moray, wife to GILLA and then to MACBETH
DEARSHUL (JER hool)- Wiccan or wise woman who tends to GRUOCH
CEANA (KEH na)- Serving woman and friend to GRUOCH
BOITE- Father to GRUOCH, this character should be played with increasing amounts of pain as caused by cancer growing.
GILLA COEMGAIN- King of Moray, first husband of GRUOCH
MACBETH- Cousin to GILLA, next King and second husband to GRUOCH
Auditions will be held on November 19 from 5:30PM – 9:30PM and November 21 from 10:30AM - 2:00PM and CALL BACKS will be held on November 23 from 5:30PM – 9:30PM. Both auditions and Call Backs will be held at:
