Artist seeking advice from other artists

I need to find work/live space here in Austin. Does anyone have advice or referrals?
Does anyone know of avenues to obtain a loan for art or a start-up business?
Are there individuals or groups who will consider a loan or grant to an artist?
Any advice from those who have found a way through that maze are very welcome!
(Just to be clear...I am employed and pay my bills and sell my work too. My goal is to be able to purchase tools and take some computer classes so that I can make this my only profession. NOT seeking handouts, just advice on how some other folks managed to afford expensive equipment and materials and such when they started out. There are creative alternitives to any obstacle...Tell me some stories!
