The New Teacher Project (TNTP) is a national non-profit consulting firm founded to address central education reform challenges facing our public schools, specifically the recruitment and preparation of outstanding new teachers and the creation of school environments that maximize those teachers' impact on student achievement. TNTP partners with universities, school districts, states, and other organizations to improve and enhance their efforts to recruit, select, train and support new teachers.
We are currently seeking a Partner for our Training and Certification line of business. The location of this position is flexible and may be based in the central TNTP office in New York City or from a home office anywhere in the United States.
Training and Certification
The New Teacher Project delivers services through several core lines of business. In the Training and Certification business line, TNTP designs and delivers pre-service preparation, professional development, and certification programs for states and school districts. We specialize in developing alternate route teachers by grounding them in strategic design (a standards-based instructional approach) and helping them more effectively leverage their own content expertise to positively impact the success of their students.
Role and Responsibilities
In Training and Certification, 3-4 Partners report to the Vice President of the Training and Certification business line. Together, the partner group is responsible for setting the direction of the business line, ensuring the successful implementation of current contracts and identifying opportunities for additional work with current and prospective clients. The Partner position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a broad impact on how teachers are hired and prepared in large urban school districts as well as the opportunity to play a significant leadership role with a major educational reform organization.
The Partner assumes primary responsibility for implementing multiple contracts focused on our model of work in that business line. The Partner is the staff member who is ultimately accountable for the successful delivery of services described in the contract -considering client needs and TNTPs mission.
Specific Partner responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Managing a portfolio of contracts within the business line and ensuring the success of those contracts
Ensuring contract goals are met by utilizing long term planning and forecasting, collecting and analyzing data, and implementing other necessary quality controls
Managing overall program design, program messaging, and contract implementation at a global level
Overseeing the successful launch of new contracts and expansion of current contracts by ensuring program alignment with state and local regulations and responding to stakeholder requests as necessary
Managing high-level client relationships to ensure client investment and support of work
Building relationships with state, district, and school district personnel to create systems and facilitate issue resolution
Ensuring fiscal stability of contracts by projecting start up and program maintenance costs, managing start up funding, calculating appropriate tuition costs, and managing the contracts operating budget
Ensuring contract renewal, and when necessary, expansion of services to meet either the need of the client or TNTP
2. Hiring and managing staff
Hiring, managing, developing, and evaluating lead contract-based staff who will oversee the development and delivery of each contract
Ensuring staff are positioned for success by executing the following:
o Establishing clear roles and responsibilities
o Implementing a robust orientation program
o Executing the performance review tool
o Ensuring quality of staff work
o Setting deadlines for staff
o Assigning work and regulating staff workload
o Providing opportunities for appropriate, meaningful staff development
o When applicable, equipping lead contract staff to manage contract based staff
Building staff connection to and investment in the greater work of the business line and TNTP
3. Shaping the growth and success of the business line as part of the business line management team
Working with business line management team to develop strategy and culture for business line
Assuming responsibility for one or more strategic initiatives to frame challenges and propose solutions around core elements of training and certification
Contributing to the codification of key knowledge around the effective preparation of new teachers and share best practices across all contracts
Serving as a resource to the VP of Training and Certification as needed
4. Contributing to the success of the The New Teacher Project
Representing TNTP in a professional manner in all settings
Proactively contributing to TNTPs knowledge base
Responding to the constantly changing environment and requirements of TNTP
Qualifications
We are seeking a strong manager who motivated by our mission and has a record of high achievement. We seek candidates who are independent and focused self-starters. The successful candidate will have prior experience with alternative route certification programs and/or under-performing schools. Successful candidates will also demonstrate:
Strong education background and instructional skill set with at least two years teaching experience in a high-need school
Exceptional project management skills
The ability to effectively manage and develop staff talent
The ability to effectively engage and motivate clients and business partners at all levels of a district
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Quantitative and data analysis skills
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $100,000 or commensurate with experience in a similar position.
