A child that is born today has a 1 in 100 chance of being diagnosed with Autism. A boy born today has a 1 in 38 chance! That is a terrifying statistic. In 1980 the rate was 1 in 10,000 (yes 1 in TEN THOUSAND. Not a typo).
My son is one of those children. He was diagnosed on August 22, 2008, a month before his 3rd birthday. He was 3 before he ever said "Momma". I am one of the lucky ones. Many moms will never hear their child say "Momma", or ever receive a hug or eye contact from their child.
October 11th is the 2009 Greater Austin Walk Now for Autism. We greatly need financial contributions.
Why Do We Walk?
We walk for the day when no parent has a teenager that has never uttered a word…because of autism.
We walk for the day when no child lives in a world that no one else can enter...because of autism.
We walk for the day when no sibling has to grow up too fast or learn the life lesson that life isn’t fair too early…because of autism.
We walk to fund research that will uncover the causes of autism.
We walk to provide education and connect families with resources and services.
We walk to help parents and caregivers to better recognize the signs of autism so their child gets early intervention.
We walk to raise awareness, essential to raising funds for research and services.
We walk to provide hope.
We walk to find the missing pieces.
Team Kieran's Heroes will be one of the teams walking. Wont you please consider a donation? Prayers and kind thoughts are also greatly appreciated!
Here is a link to our team's donation page. Maybe you will also consider walking? Or coming to the walk to show support? Or passing this ad onto friends?
