Always wanted to take a writing course, but can’t seem to find the time? Been awhile since your last attempt at that story or memoir? Jump back into writing with a 10-week online course offered by UCLA Extension Writers’ Program (http://www.uclaextension.edu/writers).The Writers’ Program offers online courses year-round and enrolls students from all over the globe! Our instructors are all working writers who are currently publishing in their fields.

This spring we’re offering a great opportunity for you to delve back into your writing project (or take up creative writing for the first time!):

True and Vivid Writing: A Practical Workshop (Online)

X 451.65
English 3 units
Course Fee: $525
Instruction Dates: April 16-June 18
Registration # T7508

The goal of this course is to provoke students into taking risks, experimenting with language, and accessing the rich material of their own perception and unconscious mind. Using the guiding principle of "the process is the product," this course offers simple yet effective exercises to release language; unlock the unconscious; and create true, vivid, and indelible prose. Augmented by readings and in-depth discussion, these exercises enable writers to experiment, to explore and develop resonant prose from the seeds of personal vision and inspiration into an organic whole. Specific methods and tools demonstrate how to integrate the world outside with the author's inner-world as a way toward shaping clear, articulate writing. We also discuss techniques to release the "internal editor" when we need it. Prerequisite: At least one fiction writing course. Enrollment limited to 15 students. $55 nonrefundable.

Instructor: Annie Reid

Annie Reid, MFA, fiction writer and filmmaker whose work has appeared in such publications as American Short Fiction, Nimrod, Alaska Quarterly Review, and the anthology Good to Go: New West Coast Writing.

To Enroll: Go to http://www.uclaextension.edu. In the search field, type the instructor’s last name. This will take you to a link to the class.
