Myself and my awesome cat Loki are looking for somewhere to live downtown. I am looking for something cheaper than $500, but if utilities are included, I would be willing to pay $600 for the right place.
Oltorf is too South; east Austin is sketchy (I know Austin pretty well), so if the apartment/house is over there, I prefer very close to I35 and not very close to Airport. I am not interested in north central Austin either (say Braker). I love Clarksville, Hyde Park, and of course SoCo/Riverside/Barton Springs, but it is tres expensive, I know. =)
I am not particular about much, except I need a room to myself, I need to feel safe and feel like Loki is safe when I leave him at home, and I want to get along with those I live with! I am really laid back and open-minded to everything...I party occasionally on weekends, I have weird sleeping habits (I am a writer, so I have a bad case of insomnia 80 percent of the time) but I am respectful of others, I have no problems with smoking outside but would prefer none inside, I have enough furniture for a small apartment and I would like to bring it with me (I hate storage)...if you want to know anything else, I am happy to ablige with answering any questions!

I just moved into a great house with a great Hippie-chick roommate and her dogs, but the landlord renegged on renewing the lease because they need somewhere to stay while their McMansion is being remodeled. So for the second time in 2 months, I'm looking for a new place.
All I need is a room/bath and access to a kitchen, but since I have a hairy four-legged "child" I am also in need of a yard-type situation. He would appreciate a hairy four-legged roommate of his own, but that may be shooting the moon. I have successfully shared bathrooms with women (past and present) and received positive remarks from the experience. I will not be leaving copies of Playboy, Maxim, etc. around the crapper, or anywhere else for that matter. I do not walk around the house partially clothed.
Am slightly quirky/nerdy and prefer to live with females or artistic types. No ulterior motives to that, just what's worked best in the past. Aforementioned dog is a kind, stunningly handsome, and very well-behaved 75lb Catahoula mix (smaller, lanki-er than you are imagining) who loves to give kisses, has a perfect house-broken record since he was 3 months old, but might not work with cats. A bit about me... I work my professional 9-6, Monday - Friday job for a nonprofit, but I am also a musician. I am not usually home much, due to my work and band schedules. I am a clean and tidy person, and prefer to keep the house that way. I am very much into art, music, and film. Whenever I am home that is usually what I find myself doing. I enjoy socializing and having dinner parties, but am not someone who NEEDS to have people constantly around. I do have a cat, she is about 6 years old, quite the cuddler, and pretty much the most amazing feline you will ever meet. Her previous owner took her claws away, so don't worry about furniture. She stays inside, so fleas and what not are not a problem. She gets along with other animals, so if you also have a friend, that shouldn't be a problem. Although, I am pretty much petrified of rats, toads and any sort of reptile or snake or whatever.... so if you have any one of those as pets, that probably will NOT be okay with me. Sorry.

A little about me: I am 33-year-old male, a part-time RTF student, and I work as an electrician for local theaters and special events around town. I have been renting rooms and apartments for many years, have never missed rent--as evident by my rental record, and my credit is perfect so I will have no problems signing a lease. In exchange for a reduction in rent, my responsibilities at my current home include taking care of the yard (mowing edging, etc.) I also have made minor repairs to the property including structural and electrical.
Drug and drama-free, I consider myself to be pretty easy-going, respectful and responsible and past roommates have been happy with me. I like indie music but am an all-around music junkie, play a mean game of pool, and have been known to golf...poorly. Since moving to Austin I've lived exclusively with females, who I seem to get along better with in roommate situations. I'm not particularly picky, but I would like someone who appreciates and contributes to a relatively clean living space like I do. Even though I am a renter, I treat my home as my own and do everything I can to keep a clean, comfortable place to live.
What I am looking for: A similar arrangement to my current one, preferably with a homeowner who could use some help with home maintenance and/or yard work. The rent reduction thing is not a necessity, but if you need a hand with yard work, I might just be your guy! In exchange for a reduction in rent, I am willing to maintain the yard (mowing, edging, etc.), and/or cover general repairs/maintenance of the property. I own all the necessary tools to accomplish these tasks, have a carpentry apprenticeship and am a licensed electrician. I would like to sign a lease--the term is negotiable. Not looking for summer sublet or anything too temporary, so 6-month and up is preferable, although I am willing to try a short trial period to see if the shoe fits before signing anything. I need to begin leasing last week of July but may be able to move sooner if need be. As far as monthly rent amount, I am flexible--this would largely depend on size and condition of home and yard, etc.
On a side-note, part of any arrangement made does not, however, include cooking for, shopping for, or cleaning up after able-bodied adults. I only mention this because there are rent exchange ads out there looking for a live-in maid, office clerk, etc. type thing.

I like to read, play games, travel, and see the occasional show, the subject matter and genre I'm usually not too picky about, although I may have permanently been scarred by Sondheim. I don't have any serious life-consuming hobbies because after a couple of years I'm always looking for something new to do. I have an undying love of board games of all sorts that doesn't have its itch scratched nearly enough. I'm highly intelligent, and possess all sorts of esoteric knowledge. I've never failed to pay rent on time, although I admittedly find myself relying on automatic payment of bills since I'm a tad forgetful.
As for any roommates, I've had quite a few over the years, and usually have had good experiences. For now, I prefer students, but am generally open minded as long as you're at least a 3 of 10 in cleanliness and can pay the rent. No hard drugs, no criminals. Male/female, gay/straight, not a problem. Pets are fine, children on a case by case basis. I'm flexible about food, although with my cooking skills are currently a little rusty, but I can follow a recipe (I better be able to, since I do chemistry). Any multilayer cakes are probably prone to collapse though. Vegans beware, when I look at animals, I often ponder out loud how they would taste. Weirdness is cool, this is Austin after all, and probably even welcome.
I apologize that this has gone on for so long I just felt it necessary to express as much as possible:p. I'm currently looking to move in around the 15th of July, possibly as late as the First of August. I can afford to pay First and Last, First and Deposit or even all 3 depending on the circumstance in cash up front.
