Arts School Registrar (Dougherty Arts Center)

Organization: Dougherty Arts School
Position: Registration Assistant
Hours: Evenings Monday-Thursday and Daytime Saturday

Classification: This position is a seasonal/temporary position with no benefits (insurance or leave) offered. Because there is no pay for sick, vacation or holiday leave, additional hours may be offered on occasion (several registrars can trade shifts for vacations, etc.).

Responsibilities:
•The primary responsibility is customer service in a high-volume telephone environment. Seasonally, there is high-volume walk-up customer service. Art School Registrars assist customers in selecting the best art classes for themselves and their children. They answer many questions about programs and classes, some of which is repetitive.
•Registrations are taken manually on paper, and then entered into a database management system. Payment is collected, processed, and confirmation packages sent. Registrations, rosters, waiting lists, and a variety of reports are managed through the database software.
•The Registrar also serves as the front desk for the school. They direct customers in person to classes or to the front desk of the Center, which houses the gallery and theater.
•Additional administrative projects are assigned as needed.

Qualifications:
•Prior experience with high-volume customer service. Retail and restaurant experience is desirable.
•Cash handling/payment processing experience is desirable.
•Front desk and administrative experience is helpful.
•Working knowledge of various art mediums, mostly visual arts.
•Experience working with a database management system. Similar programs to our registration software are those used for: POS, class registration, facility reservation, membership, fundraising, collections management, ticketing, etc.

The candidate that best matches this position is looking for a long-term, part-time position in an arts school office. This position is not autonomous or flexible where you can come and go as you finish your projects. This position is the evening Monday-Thursday and Daytime Saturday customer service shift. The registration office must be attended at all times, and both promptness and attendance are important. The registration office can be very fun and lively, which also means lots of distractions. But there are also slow times of the year, when we catch up on organization and administrative work. This shift will be on duty when adult instructors, students, parents, and children will all be present. It is a creative and casual environment; however we do present a professional front office.

Look A Day (www.lookaday.com) is a website which specializes in showing real fashion. We post and review pictures of real people wearing their own clothes along with information on each outfit. We're looking for photographers to supply us with more photos. We pay by the "look" where each look consists of:

1. At least 4 shots of the person.
2. All shots should be in 600w by 400h or 400w by 600h with at least one of them in 600w by 400h.
3. Two thumbnails. One in 70 by 70 the other in 110 by 110.
4. Information on the clothes. Where did they buy the items? What brands are the items? How much did they cost?
5. Go to the site if you want to see what each look consists of. We do not expect you to provide the commentary, only the pictures and clothing information.
6. Pictures should be under 500k if possible.

It's an easy assignment since each look typically takes less than 10 minutes to obtain.

A few more notes:

1. We are NOT looking for staged shoots or professional models. We want real people. That could mean people walking down the street. It could mean people at a party. It could mean people at some special event. It's all good. Look A Day isn't just about casual street clothing. The subjects do need to look good. The point of the site is to highlight people who readers may want to emulate. Beyond that, we're very flexible in what kinds of pictures we accept.
2. This initial offer is for 5 looks. That will allow us to see how good you are and for you to learn what exactly we need. If the initial package of 5 looks good, we will want more looks in the future.
3. We pay $30 per look. So for the initial package of 5 we will pay $150.
4. We don't need your resume or a list of your experience. We've found good photographers who are brand new and are perfectly willing to work with amateurs.
5. Please contact us for more information. Note, we have a limited number of spots available so please get in touch with us BEFORE you go out and take pictures so we can tell you if we still need people
