Richlund Ventures is a fast growing retail multi-channel retailer looking for a motivated individual to fill a need in our Operations Division. This position will be crucial in running our day to day warehouse and logistics operations.
The ultimate goal is to have an efficient, cost effective, and cohesive end-to-end logistics operation, which will include managing and improving:
Inbound logistics from both domestic and international sources
Our on-site warehouse
Off-site bulk storage and third party logistics operations
Outbound logistics through the various small-parcel services (UPS/Fedex/etc.), LTL, truck-load, and potentially USPS and export (container load and break bulk)
Reverse logistics and cost recovery
Day-to-day relationship management with all logistics-related providers
Contract negotiation with the above
Management, hiring, firing, and motivation of employees to perform in all above areas
Manage and make suggestions in related areas, e.g., advising on improved packaging (to reduce damage rates) for products from OEM factories
The purpose of every team member of Richlund Ventures is to serve our customers and add value to their purchasing experience within our different marketing divisions and sales channels. The Director of Logistics will be expected to continually develop, instill and reward behaviors and processes that contribute to our goal of total customer satisfaction.
Objectives and Tasks:
Manage all aspects of recruiting, hiring, firing, reviews, and employee retention within areas of responsibility
Handle all correspondence and negotiations with vendors. Benchmark cost reductions based on proactive negotiations. Vendors include, but may not be limited to:
- UPS/Fedex
- LTL carriers
- Steamship lines
- Freight forwarders
- Product packaging, pallets
- Racking and other warehouse equipment
Develop Key Performance Indicators for all personnel and divisions. Benchmark these metrics and improve upon them. Example- possible metrics for employees in the Shipping, Receiving, and Refurbishment departments include: Shipping accuracy, receiving accuracy, labor cost/shipment, cost/return, % salvage value, overtime, returned product turnaround, etc.
Develop an environment / protocol whereby feedback is elicited from all team members that is used to improve our operation and customers experience. Transfer this feedback into actionable improvement plans and execute them
Analyze on-site warehouse space utilization and make recommendations on how to best organize product storage and workflow in order to maximize space and shipping/receiving efficiency while maintaining a safe workplace.
Develop standard working protocols for warehouse workflow to optimize efficiencies. This will include, but is not limited to shipping, receiving, product refurbishment, etc.
Analyze shipping process and determine staffing requirements and forecasted requirements based on current and projected shipping volume.
Optimize product packaging costs in conjunction with reducing freight damage. Evaluate the best mix of cost of packaging vs. return on investment in reduction in customer returns due to damage or defective products.
Investigate new logistics options and vendors, e.g., USPS, specialized home delivery services, etc. Benchmark cost and service improvements to be gained from the preceding, and move forward on the relationship if it makes sense for our customers.
Manage cost recovery on all returned product. Maximize revenue generated from these returned products while moving them out within 30 day time line.
GAP analysis of current WHM software and recommendations on new software to streamline processes, reduce errors, and improve inventory accuracy
Maintain shipping accuracy of no more than .05% shipping errors. Ship all orders received before 1 pm on the same day as received.
Develop Key Reports to present to Senior Management monthly and quarterly.
Maximize claims paid on all damaged products returned to our warehouse (UPS/Fedex, LTL).
Manage cycle count process and improve shrinkage due to inventory inaccuracy Goal of .not more than .02% inaccuracy.
Create and maintain a safe and clean work environment for our on-site warehouse.
Collaborate with Purchasing and Import divisions as it pertains to improving product quality, reduction of problem product skus, product overstock, or understock.
Make recommendations on equipment needs (forklifts, racking, conveyor, etc) that can make the operation more efficient
Manage the relationship with freight forwarders to ensure cost-effective and timely flow of containers into our warehouse and distribution centers
Audit all warehouse and logistics bills to ensure lowest cost
Manage all logistics operations, including third party warehouses and distribution centers
Manage the returns and repair, and cost recovery processes for all product, including our private label branded product
