Beer Sellers..... Wake Up

You all need to wake up and smell the real world. All you bands out there who cherish your artistry and believe that a businessman should see the value in your music need to understand the value. Selling stuff!

If you ever get a record deal take some time to examine what your signing. The record company is going to fly you across the country, set you up with producers, record a few albums, and plan a tour. But, at the same time they will tally up every dime and you will pay them back. They are in essence just a loan company. Also never forget the interest.

Now you might be one of the few bands who gets a guarantey (money that you will walk away with even if you only sell 2 records, one to your mom and one to your grandma) but, they will even factor that into their total cost and have to pay them back for what they paid you, then they will cut your percentage in.

There are thousands of bands in LA, Nashville, and New York, who by the way would make your band that played 10 gigs total last year look like a middle school marching band, who would love to get 10% of the bar at one of their shows.

They will call up every alchi friend and even ex-girlfriends to come and pack the club because, they know that a person will only pay a cover once, but will drop $50 or $60 bucks while their at the show. They also know that if they rock, and I mean truly rock, that out of town clubs will start to call them, and their fans will buy t-shirts and albums, and that in 5 years they will still be proud beer sellers when they get 50% of an arena's food AND beverage sales.

Guys everybody sells something. Why limit it to the demo that you and your girl-friend recorded on your MacBook in your dorm room for $100.

THanks
