Well, as for you're entire "Obeying the Law" Bullshit.. let me give you a bit of the real world. Our 'leaders' do not CARE that over 50% of the population agrees that marijuana should be legalized. THAT is why it's NOT a matter of "OBEYING THE LAW" as you say.

In my opinion, when this government stopped listening to "We the People", it became unfit to make any law that governs my life.

However, go ahead and continue to insult me. I find it truly entertaining that you consider yourself to be an "intellectual" when you continue to spout the normal bullshit that is so easy to see through.

The point, smart guy, is that welfare is SUPPOSED to be a hand up, not a handout. When people use it as a way to subsist so they can 'smoke weed' there is no need for them to receive that hand up. They're not interested in moving up, just subsisting on someone else's money. Therefore, as long as they receive money from the government, they should have to play by certain rules. Obeying the law would be one of those rules. I'm not interested in debating the societal costs of booze vs. cannabis because I, too, believe alcohol is more destructive. But, it is legal. This goes back to that obeying the law thing, smart guy. This is a country where we live by the rule of law and not some tyrant's decree. If you don't like the law, work to have it changed. Good luck with that.

As far as my idea to fix the economy and healthcare? Well, competition is the answer my friend. Competition between small businesses and competition between insurance companies. If the insurance companies all have to work harder to get business, etc than it makes the costs lower for other people. As far as what it costs in hospitals, those costs are so high because of the fact that so FEW people actually pay their bills in the first place.

As far as the economy... the government should not have gotten involved in bailing ANYONE out or given ANY type of "stimulus" if they were going to borrow money from the Federal Reserve. All that did was bankrupt the nation. Instead, the loans should have been given to smaller businesses to increase the number of employees that they can hire and possibly increase the wages that are made. Where do we get this money? Well, by cutting the pay of these "elected officials" that we have in office. The way to fix the economy is to create more consumers and more jobs.. not create more construction companies and a private security force, etc. :)

Please... get a clue before you decide to argue... I do this quite a bit, my friend. You'll have to up your game a tad bit.

Also... you might wanna re-read my original post.. I never said that we were ACTUALLY a Christian nation.. A preemptive strike to stop amnesty from becoming law is in the works.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is calling on the immigration enforcement movement to team up with the Taxpayer Tea Party and 9/12 movements to hold �Tea Parties Against Amnesty� rallies across America on November 14.

�We know that the honest polling data shows over three to one opposition to the Gutierrez Obama Comprehensive Amnesty path to citizenship legislation,� William Gheen of ALIPAC said in a press release referring to Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez proposed immigration reform legislation. �ALIPAC stands ready to organize and channel the backlash wave of anger that is coming into peaceful civic action designed to remove many lawmakers who do not serve the wishes or interests of their constituents in 2010!�

Luis V. Gutierrez, D-Ill. is the chairman of the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Immigration. He also introduced the Citizenship Promotion Act with then Senator Obama in 2007. It is a bill which, in part, would give $80 million to community organizers to �organize� the immigrant community to become U.S. citizens with the right to vote.

The �Gutierrez Obama Comprehensive Amnesty� plan, as ALIPAC calls it, made news in October when Gutierrez spoke at an event organized by Reform Immigration FOR America. According to their website, �The Campaign to Reform Immigration for America is, in part, a project of the Tides Advocacy Fund.� The Tides Advocacy Fund �is founded on principles of social justice, broadly shared economic opportunity, a robust democratic process and a sustainable environment.�

The key criteria outlined in Gutierrez�s proposed legislation includes:

In an email exchange Gheen said that the November 14 rallies were put together rapidly to catch any backlash that would come from Gutierrez if he files his proposed legislation. Gheen made it clear that these upcoming rallies are a precursor, �We plan larger scale operations in the Spring,� he wrote back.

The last time comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens was put forward was in June 2007 under former President George W. Bush. The bill was defeated when the Senate vote fell 14 votes short of the 60 required to move it forward.

While it is no secret that America�s immigration system is broken, and this longstanding system breakdown adversely affects America�s national security and economy, the latest Rasmussen Report shows, �By a 70% to 22% margin, voters say that gaining control of the borders is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already in the country.�

However, despite the wishes of voters, legalizing illegal aliens inevitably seems to become the dominate topic in the immigration debate. It also appears in impending legislation aside from Gutierrez�s proposals. Before President-elect Barack Obama�s inauguration, for instance, in January 2009, Vermont�s Senator Patrick Leahy introduced the tough-titled �Stronger Economy, Stronger Borders Act of 2009,� S. 9. However, in Sen. Leahy�s introduction it is revealed that a wall with Mexico should be �reconsidered� because it is a �symbol of fear and intolerance,� and �harsh penalties and more enforcement� are not a realistic solution to address illegal aliens.

Then there is Senator Charles �Chuck� Schumer, a co-sponsor of S. 9, who also serves as the Chairman of the powerful Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security. His voting record, documented by Ontheissues.org, suggests he is a staunch illegal aliens advocate.

More evidence that legalizing illegal aliens is on the horizon appears in an October 1 interview in the New York Times with the new director of the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas said that the agency �is already planning ahead for the possibility of giving legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.�

This all might be good news for amnesty advocates but here is the bad news � which should concern both points of view on this issue. The notion that the USCIS, tasked in part to keep America safe by keeping unscrupulous people out, is a competent agency and therefore will be equipped to process millions of illegal aliens should amnesty become law is fiction and entirely absurd when one examines the USCIS� record. For starters, America�s $2.6 billion a-year immigration agency amassed a twenty-year backlog of applications under both Democratic and Repubican administrations. It loses files. Even worse, it is riddled with crime and corruption where bribery, be it for money, gifts or sex is part of their record of achievement that has put America�s national security in jeopardy and arguably contributed to the illegal alien problem in the first place. To expect competency from this troubled bureaucracy could prove to be an exercise in self-defeat.

Retired Col. John P. Galligan said he was contacted Monday by Hasan's family, which asked him to be their lawyer. Galligan said he was hoping to meet with Hasan later in the day.

"Until I meet with him, it's best to say we're just going to protect all of his rights," he said. Galligan said he did not know Hasan's condition.

Fifteen of the shooting victims remained hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and eight were in intensive care.

The personal Web site for a radical American imam living in Yemen who had contact with two 9/11 hijackers praised Hasan as a hero.

The posting Monday on the Web site for Anwar al Awlaki, who was a spiritual leader at two mosques where three 9/11 hijackers worshipped, said American Muslims who condemned the Fort Hood attack are hypocrites who have committed treason against their religion.

Awlaki said the only way a Muslim can justify serving in the U.S. military is if he intends to "follow in the footsteps of men like Nidal."

"Nidal Hassan (sic) is a hero," Awlaki said. "He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

Two U.S. intelligence officials told The Associated Press the Web site was Awlaki's. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence collection. Awlaki did not immediately respond to an attempt to contact him through the Web site.

Hasan's family attended the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., where Awlaki was preaching in 2001. Hasan's mother's funeral was held at the mosque on May 31, 2001, according to her obituary in the Roanoke Times newspaper, around the same time two 9/11 hijackers worshipped at the mosque and while Awlaki was preaching.

Awlaki is a native-born U.S. citizen who left the United States in 2002, eventually traveling to Yemen. He was released from a Yemeni jail last year and has since gone missing. He is on Yemen's most wanted militant list, according to three Yemeni security officials.

The officials say Awlaki was arrested in 2006 with a small group of suspected al-Qaida militants in the capital San'a. They say he was released more than a year later after signing a pledge he will not break the law or leave the country. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The Falls Church mosque is one of the largest on the East Coast, and thousands of worshippers attend prayers and services there every week.

Imam Johari Abdul-Malik, outreach director at Dar al Hijrah, said he did not know whether Hasan ever attended the mosque but confirmed that the Hasan family participated in services there. Abdul-Malik said the Hasans were not leaders at the mosque and their attendance was normal.

The London Telegraph first reported the potential link between Hasan and the mosque.

Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday he wants Congress to determine whether the shootings constitute a terrorist attack and whether warning signs that Hasan was embracing an increasingly extremist view of Islamic ideology were missed.

Classmates who participated in a 2007-2008 master's program at a military college told The Associated Press that they complained to faculty during the program about what they considered to be Hasan's anti-American views, which included his giving a presentation that justified suicide bombing and telling classmates that Islamic law trumped the U.S. Constitution.

"If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have zero tolerance," Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, said on "Fox News Sunday." "He should have been gone."

Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey said Sunday it's important for the country not to get caught up in speculation about Hasan's Muslim faith, and he has instructed his commanders to be on the lookout for anti-Muslim reaction to the killings at the Texas post.

As for America being a Christian nation. I only have facts and history on my side:

The U.S. Constitution is a secular document. It begins, "We the people," and contains no mention of "God" or "Christianity." Its only references to religion are exclusionary, such as, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust" (Art. VI), and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (First Amendment). Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a U.S. Army psychiatrist, murdered twelve people and wounded twenty-one inside Fort Hood in Texas yesterday, while, according to eyewitnesses, "shouting something in Arabic while he was shooting." Investigators are scratching their heads and expressing puzzlement about why he did it. According to NPR [1], "the motive behind the shootings was not immediately clear, officials said." The Washington Post [2] agreed: "The motive remains unclear, although some sources reported the suspect is opposed to U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq and upset about an imminent deployment." The Huffington Post spun faster, asserting that "there is no concrete reporting as to whether Nidal Malik Hasan was in fact a Muslim or an Arab."

Yet there was, and what's more, Major Hasan's motive was perfectly clear -- but it was one that the forces of political correctness and the Islamic advocacy groups in the United States have been working for years to obscure. So it is that now that another major jihad terror attack has taken place on American soil, authorities and the mainstream media are at a loss to explain why it happened - and the abundant evidence that it was a jihad attack is ignored.

Nidal Malik Hasan was born in Virginia but didn't think of himself as an American: on a form he filled out at the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, he gave his nationality not as "American" but as "Palestinian." A mosque official found that curious, saying: "I don't know why he listed Palestinian. He was not born in Palestine."

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and has a doctorate in psychiatry from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. While there, NPR reports, Hasan was "put on probation early in his postgraduate work" and was "disciplined for proselytizing about his Muslim faith with patients and colleagues."

He was a staff psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before transferring to Fort Hood earlier this year. While at Walter Reed, he was a "very devout" member of and daily visitor to the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring. Faizul Khan, a former imam at the Center, expressed puzzlement over Hasan's murders: "To know something like this happened, I don't know what got into his mind. There was nothing extremist in his questions. He never showed any frustration....He never showed any remorse or wish for vengeance on anybody."

So he identified himself as Palestinian and was a devout Muslim - so what? These things, of course, have no significance if one assumes that Islam is a Religion of Peace and that when a devout Muslim reads the Koran's many injunctions to wage war against unbelievers, he knows that they have no force or applicability for today's world. Unfortunately, all too many Muslims around the world demonstrate in both their words and their deeds that they take such injunctions quite seriously. And Nidal Hasan gave some indications that he may have been among them.

On May 20, 2009, a man giving his name as "NidalHasan" posted this defense of suicide bombing [3] (all spelling and grammar as it is in the original):

There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that "IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE" and Allah (SWT) knows best.

Of course, it may not be the same Nidal Hasan. But there is more. One of his former colleagues, Col. Terry Lee, recalled Hasan saying statements to the effect of "Muslims have the right to rise up against the U.S. military"; "Muslims have a right to stand up against the aggressors"; and even speaking favorably about people who "strap bombs on themselves and go into Times Square."

Maybe he just snapped, perhaps under the pressure of his imminent deployment to Iraq. But it's noteworthy that if he did, he snapped in exactly the same way that several other Muslims in the U.S. military have snapped in the past. In April 2005, a Muslim serving in the U.S. Army, Hasan Akbar, was convicted of murder for killing two American soldiers and wounding fourteen in a grenade attack in Kuwait. AP reported: "Prosecutors say Akbar told investigators he launched the attack because he was concerned U.S. troops would kill fellow Muslims in Iraq. They said he coolly carried out the attack to achieve 'maximum carnage' on his comrades in the 101st Airborne Division."

And Hasan's murderous rampage resembles one that five Muslim men in New Jersey tried to carry out at Fort Dix in New Jersey in 2007, when they plotted to enter the U.S. Army base and murder as many soldiers as they could.

That was a jihad plot. One of the plotters, Serdar Tatar, told an FBI informant late in 2006: "I'm gonna do it....It doesn't matter to me, whether I get locked up, arrested, or get taken away, it doesn't matter. Or I die, doesn't matter, I'm doing it in the name of Allah." Another plotter, Mohamad Shnewer, was caught on tape saying, "They are the ones, we are going to put bullets in their heads, Allah willing."

Nidal Hasan's statements about Muslims rising up against the U.S. military aren't too far from that, albeit less graphic. The effect of ignoring or downplaying the role that Islamic beliefs and assumptions may have played in his murders only ensures that - once again - nothing will be done to prevent the eventual advent of the next Nidal Hasan.

WASHINGTON � The family of the alleged Fort Hood shooter held his mother's funeral at the same Virginia mosque that two Sept. 11 hijackers attended in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there.

Whether the Fort Hood shooter associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

The family of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 and wounding 29 at the Texas military base, held his mother's funeral at the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., on May 31, 2001, according to her obituary in the Roanoke Times newspaper.

In 2001, Anwar Aulaqi was an imam, or spiritual leader, at the Washington-area mosque. Aulaqi told the FBI in 2001 that, before he moved to Virginia in early 2001, he met with 9/11 hijacker Nawaf al-Hazmi several times in San Diego. Al-Hazmi was at the time living with Khalid al-Mihdhar, another hijacker. Al-Hazmi and another hijacker, Hani Hanjour, attended the Dar al Hijrah mosque in Virginia in early April 2001.

In his FBI interview, Aulaqi denied ever meeting with al-Hazmi and Hanjour while in Virginia.

Aulaqi, a native-born U.S. citizen, left the United States in 2002, eventually traveling to Yemen. He was investigated by the FBI in 1999 and 2000 after it was learned that he may have been contacted by a possible procurement agent for Osama bin Laden. During this investigation, the FBI learned that Aulaqi knew people involved in raising money for Hamas, a Palestinian group on the U.S. State Department's terrorist list.

Imam Johari Abdul-Malik, outreach director at Dar al Hijrah, said he did not know whether Hasan ever attended the mosque but confirmed that the Hasan family participated in services there. Abdul-Malik said the Hasans were not leaders at the mosque and their attendance was utterly normal.

The Falls Church mosque is one of the largest on the East Coast, and thousands of worshippers attend prayers and services there every week. Abdul-Malik said it's a mistake for people to conflate regular attendance at a mosque with extremism.

Many Muslims pray at the mosque multiple times a day, he said. "It's part of family life. It's like going out for ice cream after dinner."

Faizul Khan, former imam of the Muslim Community Center in nearby Silver Spring, Md., where Hasan also worshipped, said he was not aware that Hasan had attended services at Dar al Hijrah but said it would not be unusual for Hasan to attend more than one mosque concurrently.

Khan said he did not recall Hasan mentioning having been taught or preached to by Aulaqi.

The London Telegraph first reported the potential link between Hasan and the mosque.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey said Sunday it's important for the country not to get caught up in speculation about Hasan's Muslim faith, and he has instructed his commanders to be on the lookout for anti-Muslim reaction to the killings at the Texas post.

He says focusing on the Islamic roots of the suspected shooter could "heighten the backlash" against all Muslims in the military.

Casey says diversity in the military "gives us strength."

Casey declined to answer questions about the investigation into the shooting, but said evidence to this point shows that Hasan acted alone. He toured Fort Hood on Friday with Army Secretary John McHugh.

Casey appeared on ABC's "This Week" and CNN's "State of the Union."

Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army major suspected of killing 13 people and wounding 29 others at Fort Hood, worshipped at the same mosque as two of the 9/11 terrorists.

According to the London Sunday Telegraph, Hasan attended services at the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Va., in 2001 at the same time as Sept. 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour. Funeral services for Hasan's mother also was held at that mosque.

The FBI wants to interrogate Hasan to see if he met or knew al-Hamzi or Hanjour, reports the Telegraph.

The imam at the mosque at the time Hasan attended services there was Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric who has been described as a supporter of al-Qaida. A third 9/11 hijacker attended al-Awlaki's lectures in California.

WASHINGTON � His name appears on radical Internet postings. A fellow officer says he fought his deployment to Iraq and argued with soldiers who supported U.S. wars. He required counseling as a medical student because of problems with patients.

There are many unknowns about Nidal Malik Hasan, the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. Most of all, his motive. But details of his life and mindset, emerging from official sources and personal acquaintances, are troubling.

For six years before reporting for duty at Fort Hood, Texas, in July, the 39-year-old Army major worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001.

While an intern at Walter Reed, Hasan had some "difficulties" that required counseling and extra supervision, said Dr. Thomas Grieger, who was the training director at the time.

Grieger said privacy laws prevented him from going into details but noted that the problems had to do with Hasan's interactions with patients. He recalled Hasan as a "mostly very quiet" person who never spoke ill of the military or his country.

"He swore an oath of loyalty to the military," Grieger said. "I didn't hear anything contrary to those oaths."

But, more recently, federal agents grew suspicious.

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.

They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Va., said he had been harassed about being a Muslim in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and he wanted out of the Army.

"Some people can take it and some people cannot," she said. "He had listened to all of that and he wanted out of the military."

She said he had sought a discharge from the military for several years, and even offered to repay the cost of his medical training.

A spokesman for the Army, Lt. Col. George Wright, told the Post he could not confirm that Hasan had sought a discharge.

Noel Hasan said her nephew "did not make many friends" and would say "they military was his life."

A cousin, Nader Hasan, told The New York Times that after counseling soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder, Hasan knew war firsthand.

"He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy," Nader Hasan said. "He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there."

Federal law-enforcement agents ordered an evacuation of the apartment complex where Hasan lived in Killeen, Texas, Thursday night and conducted a search of his home, said Hilary Shine, director of public information for the city. She didn't say what was found during the search.

Officials said earlier that federal search warrants were being drawn up to authorize the seizure of his computer.

Retired Army Col. Terry Lee, who said he worked with Hasan, told Fox News that Hasan had hoped President Barack Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said Hasan got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars, and had tried hard to prevent his pending deployment.

Hasan attended prayers regularly when he lived outside Washington, often in his Army uniform, said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended in Silver Spring, Md. He said Hasan was a lifelong Muslim.

"I got the impression that he was a committed soldier," Khan said. He spoke often with Hasan about Hasan's desire for a wife.

On a form filled out by those seeking spouses through a program at the mosque, Hasan listed his birthplace as Arlington, Va., but his nationality as Palestinian, Khan said.

"I don't know why he listed Palestinian," Khan said, "He was not born in Palestine."

Nothing stood out about Hasan as radical or extremist, Khan said.

"We hardly ever got to discussing politics," Khan said. "Mostly we were discussing religious matters, nothing too controversial, nothing like an extremist."

Hasan earned his rank of major in April 2008, according to a July 2008 Army Times article.

He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. He also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. He received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997.

I have heard that the death penalty is more expensive than life in prison......as if that should be a factor when seeking justice ....as in PUNISHMENT, not rehabilitation, not deterrence (those are not the purposes of the death penalty). The fact of the matter is, life in prison IS CHEAPER but ONLY when life in prison is considered the standard 25 years, the prisoner is a model, low risk, low security prison resident, and it also assumes that the prisoner will be in perfect health until he gets out or dies. If you minus those factors, which is the case with just about every death row inmate, then the death penalty even with the appeals, is less expensive.
If a prisoner becomes a type II diabetic, has liver issues, heart issues, blood pressure issues in the later stages of "life" in prison, that raises the cost significantly.
I'm PRO CHOICE when it comes to the death penalty. In the rare instance that I'm on a capital crime jury, I believe that I should have the right to choose an appropriate punishment for the crime. I firmly believe that the death penalty should remain a painless, humane, and legal option and choice....as it is currently.

I was cruising through these opinions today when I saw this posting. I coudn't help but envisioning the poster as a small-framed man in square-rimmed glasses and a bow-tie. The poster was angry over the use of the term "colored" in the NAACP name, I guess he thought it was bigoted . . . then it occured to me that he was right, but for a different reason!

If you look at black people (and I love 'em), they usually have medium - dark brown skin, dark hazel - dark brown eyes, brown - black hair. Beautiful people, but not exactly "colored".
Nor exactly "black", I guess.

But what about us white people? Again, not exactly "white". Your garden-variety white person comes in a variety of combinations: Blond, red, brown, black hair. Green, blue, hazel, brown eyes. Peach, olive, brown, pasty, freckly skin, etc.

Should it not be we so-called "white" people who are called colored? Remember the color spectrum, red-orange-yellow-green-blue-indigo-violet? Last I checked, we "white" people have all them colors. 10 Facts Every American Should Know About Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-Page Gov't Takeover of Health Care

Washington, Oct 29 -

Members of Congress and the American people are just beginning to look at Speaker Nancy Pelosi�s (D-CA) 1,990-page government takeover of health care, but it�s already becoming clear just how costly and unsustainable this proposal is. From higher taxes on middle-class families to job-killing mandates on small businesses to cuts in Medicare benefits for seniors, here are 10 facts every American should know about Speaker Pelosi�s 1,990-page government takeover of health care:

1. RAISES TAXES ON MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill imposes a range of tax increases on families with income below $250,000, breaking a promise made by President Obama. Tax increases on middle class families include: an individual mandate tax of up to 2.5 percent of income for taxpayers earning as little as $9,350; repeal of a tax break on medicine purchased with funds from an HSA (health savings account); limits to tax relief through FSAs (flexible spending accounts); taxes on medical devices that will inevitably be passed on to consumers; and a new tax on all insurance policies.

2. MASSIVE CUTS TO MEDICARE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS. Despite grave warnings from CBO, FactCheck.org, and the independent Lewin Group that cuts to Medicare of the magnitude included in Speaker Pelosi�s bill would have a negative impact on seniors� benefits and choices, Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill stays the course and cuts Medicare by hundreds of billions of dollars.

3. NO PROTECTIONS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill claims to exempt small businesses from the steep eight percent �pay or play� employer mandate. The facts tell a different story. Using Census data compiled by the Small Business Administration, this so-called �exemption� hammers small employers with only, on average, 17 or more employees to new taxes and mandates. The outfits affected employ 70 percent of all small business employees, or 42.3 million workers. Adding to the assault on small businesses, the bill does not index the small business �exemption� amounts, meaning more and more small businesses will be ensnared by this job-killing employer mandate each year.

4. INCREASES THE COST OF HEALTH INSURANCE. Imposing a new $2 billion tax on insurance policies will be passed on to patients in the form of higher premiums. Changes to the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit will, according to estimates by CBO, will raise Medicare Part B premiums by $25 billion and Part D premiums by 20 percent. And imposing an unfunded mandate on the states to pay for the bill�s Medicaid expansion will shift the burden of this expansion on state taxpayers who may experience tax increases to cover the cost.

5. USES GIMMICKS TO HIDE BUDGET-BUSTING COST, PILES UP DEBT ON FUTURE GENERATIONS. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill claims to be deficit neutral, but uses budget gimmickry to hide its massive total cost. Working families across America know they cannot simply decide that a bill they get in the mail doesn�t exist, but that�s exactly what congressional Democrats are doing. In order to meet the President�s �target� spending total of $900 billion, Democrats have simply swept costly provisions under the rug, including the $245 billion �doc fix.�

6. IMPOSES JOB-KILLING EMPLOYER MANDATES. Additional taxes on employers and new government mandates that dictate acceptable insurance will place new and crushing burdens on employers. These are burdens that will ultimately fall squarely on the backs of workers in the form of reduced wages, fewer hours or lost employment. CBO agrees that "[e]mployees largely bear the cost of... play-or-pay fees in the form of lower wages." According to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation�s largest small business association, an employer mandate of this magnitude will disproportionately impact small businesses, triggering up to 1.6 million lost jobs. Two-thirds of those jobs would be shed by small businesses.

7. TILTS THE PLAYING FIELD IN FAVOR OF THE GOVERNMENT-RUN INSURANCE COMPANY. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill promises not to give the government-run plan advantages over private insurers in the market, but the opposite is true. The bill provides billions in start-up funding for the government-run plan, and while it requires the plan to repay the money over time it does not require the plan to pay interest on this �loan.� This interest-free, taxpayer-subsidized loan is potentially worth millions of dollars and tilts the playing field in favor of the government-run plan.

8. THREATENS CASH-STRAPPED STATES WITH UNFUNDED MANDATES. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill swells the number of Americans on the government rolls by expanding Medicaid eligibility. Medicaid is financed through a federal-state partnership, but the bill dumps nearly ten percent of the mandated expansion included in the bill onto the states. States, already struggling with fiscal constraints, would be left on the hook for billions of dollars due to this unfunded mandate.

9. CREATES A NEW MONSTROSITY IN THE TAX CODE. Starting in 2011, Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill imposes a 5.4 percent tax on adjusted gross income above $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for married couples. Yet, the dollar amounts for which the tax kicks in are not indexed for inflation. We�ve seen this horror film before: the Alternative Minimum Tax, another Frankenstein�s monster of the tax code, also wasn�t indexed for inflation and now affects millions of middle class families with incomes below the Democrat�s surtax.

10. MISSES AN OPPORTUNITY TO CURTAIL JUNK LAWSUITS. Speaker Pelosi�s health care bill misses a critical opportunity to rein in junk lawsuits and costly defensive medicine. The bill includes only a voluntary grant program to deal with the medical liability crisis instead of including real reform, which would produce tens of billions of dollars in savings, improve efficiency in our health care system and reduce costs for patients and providers.

Point to where I said our country was in danger of becoming a theocracy? Never did.
I was simply stating that Repubs choose to vote for people like Bush who use words like " Crusade " leading up to the invasion of Iraq.
Or better yet "God speaks through me"-Bush

I and many others have no doubt that he believes in rapture and end times and that by invading Iraq he believed he was hastening Gods will.
Religious zealots like Bush have no business in Government, gov is for facts reason cool heads and science, religion belongs in Church or at home.
If Republicans really wanted to make America better they would vote for people based on those abilities not the abilities to hastening their beliefs in end times or rapture, that hurts us all.

I thinks religion as an organized political force is evil, but I do represent freedom of religion and free speech, they are entitled to be as ignorant and narrow minded as they wish to be
But I also believe it is our humanely duty to expore all possibilities and truths, that's why I'm agnostic instead of atheist.

Evolve, why don't you actually get to know a couple of republican conservatives. Just repeating what you read on Huffing ton Post and the Daily Kos only makes you silly and small.
I have yet to hear a republican say that the church should be involved with government. The founding fathers and most all Americans had and have no desire to found a theological nation, but that is not to say we were not founded in the belief of a higher being.
Jesus did not require his church to be a part of government or for government to be a part of his church.
It really is kind of amusing that you would accuse republicans of being narrow minded and only voting on two or three issues when the vast majority of democrats vote on only one issue. Taking more of other people's money.
If you were better informed, you would know that we are just as environmentally aware or more so than most democrats. Its just that we want a little common sense involved in making rules and regulation.
Equal rights for all, but I am against more rights for some than others.
Unions, like government programs, started out with good intentions, but power only breeds the want for more power.
Renewable energy is great in the concept of the idea, but until we have the technology to replace fossil fuels, we have no other choice. Let's not bankrupt the country for what is now a pipe dream.
No doubt that public opinion has turned against the Iraq war, but at the time most of us thought it was the thing to do. Would I say do it again, probably not. If the occasion arose that warranted an attack on another nation, I think we all would be hesitant in doing so. If it was necessary, I would hope that our leaders would do what would be the best for the country.
If water boarding or making a terrorist listen to some bad music would save just one American life, bring on the water hose and the rap music.
A woman's right to choose is a hard one. I would never impose my will or my beliefs on someone in that situation.
But I could never be comfortable with the taking of the unborn life.
I know there are those on the far far right who go overboard, but when you compare them to those on the far left, I don't think you have a very good case as to which side is the most ignorant.
I might remind you that the majority of churches are liberal in nature and vote accordingly, so again your assumption is without basis.
Do you really believe that taking money from those who produce to give to those who will not work is the American way? We should take care of those who are unable to provide for themselves but should stop encouraging deadbeats and sloths to suck at the government tit.
Evolve, you could make a better argument if you cleaned up your own party first, then we would be more willing to listen to your ideas on how we should better the republican party.

However I'm an agnostic, so when one nation under God comes during the pledge I remain silent.
But I do, I repeat, I do put my right hand to my heart and sing the whole pledge, excuding the God part. My right my beliefs my principals.
This nation is great without God and I'm good without God, as a matter of fact our nation has remained great due to the seperation of church and state.

Hey dill head Unions are the downfall of American manufacturing why the hell do you think so many companies are going offshore and Unions are the direct reason for American auto makers failing. Rights you want to talk rights do you really think a person that dropped out of high school makes more money has more benefits than someone that worked hard got good grades and struggled sometimes on student loans to finish college I don't think so Unions have used
