I do travel quite often and leave for about a week at a time. I would hire a dog sitter to tend to my animals so as not to impose on your free time.

I don't smoke and am not good with pets (mainly because of the tons and tons of trading cards I keep around for my online business) but I am a drinker (but not a fiend). Chances are pretty good that I'll be working overnights so will be sleeping during the majority of the day and working on my businesses on my days off. The Internet is a moneymaker for me so you've definitely got to have high-speed internet access, wired or wireless. A decent-sized closet would be preferred, as while I have a nice steel set of shelves for the majority of my card collection, I'll probably need some closet space for the rest of it.
