I need a track that really makes the listener pay attention -- like "whoa, ok, here we go, we're serious now". A strong lead track. Show me what you got, I promise I can drop something hot.

I also like vocal/sound effect samples mixed in, even if it's just a guy or a girl saying something like, "Whatcha got for me?" for example or some realistic vinyl scratching. I like that throwback kind of stuff. I need a track with all cleared, legal samples and sounds. Thanks for your time.

Sundown Town is a new drama with acoustic music, singing and some dance. The setting is in and around Healing Springs, Arkansas in the late summer of 1918. Singing will be both with accompaniment and a cappella in the old-timey folk and shape-note gospel styles. Musicians will be part of the cast and will perform both on and offstage.

Cast:
2 Women
7 Men (a principal role for an older fiddler)
Plus additional:
Chorus/towns people
Musicians: acoustical string instruments only (old-timey/bluegrass, such as fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, auto-harp,etc.)

What to expect at auditions:
Auditions are general open calls
You will not need to bring any prepared monologues or songs
During the auditions you as a group will learn some simple dance combinations
During the auditions you as a group will learn some songs from the show.
During the audition you will read sides from the show
Actors please bring/wear appropriate clothing and shoes for dancing.
Musicians: please bring your instruments and be prepared to play a little something and/or jam with the other musicians

DUB HALE: 40s. Owner/operator of Hale's Apple Orchards. Honest and hard-working. A good man. He serves his farm, his family, his country, and his God. In that order.

REVEREND JOHN LOFTON: 50s. A Southern Baptist minister, all hellfire and brimstone. The saver of, if not souls, at least his own ideals.

LORETTA HALE: 40s. Dub's wife. A Sunday-Sunday-Wednesday
Baptist. The rock of the family. Rocks can also fracture.

ANNIE HALE: 16. Daughter of Dub and Loretta. Innocent, curious about the world, and Moses LaRue.

BILL CHEATHAM: Early 30s. A land developer, seeking Annie's hand in marriage. Wants to buy Hale's Orchard and Kelley's General Store and build hotels. Trusted by few.

MUTT MCCLELLAND: Early 30s. Once a drifter, he's now Cheatham's right-hand man. Rough and ready. An alcoholic. He's done very bad things in his life.

JOSHUA "JUNEBUG" KELLEY: 19. More simple than slow. Scratch's "nephew"; helps Scratch run the general store. Townsfolk call him "Junebug." A childhood friend of Annie's.

HAROLD "SCRATCH" KELLEY: Late 70s. Owns Kelley's General Store. A Civil War veteran, fought for the Confederacy. Blinded and left unable to walk by cannonball shrapnel, a large scar running across his left eye, down the side of his face, earning him his nickname. A fiddle player.

MOSES LARUE: 19. An African-American drifter, originally from New Orleans. An old soul, looking for a new life.

CHORUS/TOWNS PEOPLE: Sing both a cappella and with string accompaniment and some dance.

SYNOPSIS
The Buddy Holly Story is a jukebox musical in two acts with a book written by Alan Janes, and music and lyrics by a variety of songwriters. Based on the life and career of early rock and roller Buddy Holly, the musical hews closer to Holly's actual life story than the 1978 film version. One of the first so-called "jukebox musicals," the show consists mostly of the songs of Holly and other early rockers.
With the support of local radio DJ, Hipockets Duncan, Buddy and his two friends form a Country & Western band-Buddy Holly & the Crickets- and begin to carve out a career in music. After a difficult start at Decca in Nashville, they sign a contract with up-and-coming, innovative record producer Norman Petty. Within hours, Buddy Holly & the Crickets start to churn out hits from the recording studio built in Norman's backyard, amount them "That'll be the Day", which will rocket up the charts to number one in a matter of weeks. Buddy Holly and the Crickets are suddenly the hottest act in the country and out on national tour.

Jerry Allison: Drummer, preferably under 25 from Lubbock, Texas. Good looking,
irrepressible cheeky with musical ability. Must be able to act, play drums and sing background harmonies. Performer needs to own/provide a set of drums.

Tommy Alsop: Guitarist, preferably under 25 from Lubbock Texas. Needs to act and play electric guitar with some leads. Playing Mandolin and ability to sing backgrounds would also be an advantage. Performer needs to own an electric guitar, guitar amp and mandolin if played.

CALL-BACKS will be on Feb 26th, by invitation only. The call back list will go up on our website after 8pm on Feb 25th. You will find the list at: (http://www.georgetownpalace.com/nowplaying.php). You may not receive any individual calls or emails, so please check the website.

The production runs May 11-June 10, 2012. Performances will be at the Georgetown Palace Theater Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2pm, although there might be some Thursday evening, and Saturday matinees added. All rehearsals and performances will be held at the Palace Theater.

REHEARSALS will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 6:00-10:00pm, and Saturdays from 1:00-5:00pm. However, it's possible that we will schedule rehearsals on some Sundays as well so we are asking for everyone's availability for the possible alternative times up front. Rehearsals will begin March 6th, 2012.

**It is critical that you let us know all of your conflicts at the auditions. We will be unable to accept conflicts brought to us after casting is done.

Mother: Going through dementia, Max's mother has only the thinnest grasp on reality, though through the course of the film she gains her senses (in Max's mind).

Caretaker: Male, Someone sent to look after the mother but terrible at his job and abusive, smoking on the job and making a mess of the house. Doesn't take kindly to Max.

Sally and the Jock (1 Female, 1 Male): A couple who mock Max as he walks home from school. They become an altered, beautified form of themselves in Max's fantasy realm.

Last, and arguably most importantly, you MUST be at an acceptable volume. What does acceptable mean? We are a restaurant. We need to be able to hear enough to take orders. As a metal drummer myself, I know how this can suck, but it is what it is. "jazz kits" and brushes are highly encouraged. You dont need a full stack, and even your half is going to be turned down pretty low. Having done live music here for years, I have seen good bands that too loud empty the restaurant. I will pull the plug before i let that happen....just so all the cards are on the table.

Synopsis: In a small Texas town, cultural barriers between two families are blurred as a miscommunication sends the neighbors into a headlong tailspin. The value of human life remains at odds with human nature, leaving one family to pay the ultimate price.

Characters:

Don Cortez -- (30-45) A Hispanic man who has worked hard to provide a better life for his family and overcome the difficulties of making it in America. (Must be fluent in Spanish, does not speak English in film)

Mr. King - (45-55) A black (or white) man who suffers severely from PTSD. He has been through many traumatic things in his life - Desert Storm and the loss of his wife. He is not diagnosed.

Vesper King - (15-22, but must look almost 17) A young black (or white) woman who, although grieves the loss of her mother, tries to make an effort to fit in with the kids at school.

Ileana Cortez -- (25-40) A Hispanic woman who is completely in love with her husband and thankful of the life they live together. (Must be able to speak Spanish, does not speak English in film)

Paolo Cortez - (7-8) A Hispanic boy who looks up to his father and has great respect for him. (Doesn't have to be fluent in Spanish, but would be better if he understood it well.)

The Driver - (must look 18) A white teenage boy who drives a nice car and is the cool guy at school.

The Kid in the Passenger Seat - (must look 18) The driver's sidekick/best friend, male, white, kind of snarky.


CASTING DATES:
First round of Auditions: Friday, March 17th from 2-7 pm
Location: UT Campus, building CMB, 4th floor (Studio 4E)

Production Dates:
March 10-13: Don Cortez and Paolo only
March 22-25: Entire cast (filmed in Austin)

Billy is too brave of a kid, and is no longer scared by the monster. Without scaring kids, the monster cannot go on living. Neither of them can satisfy the other in this relationship, yet Billy tries to cling to it. Billy goes through all the stages of denial: aggression, entrapment, to finally reaching acceptance. This movie does not end with happiness, but instead an understanding that some things in life are out of our control. Billy realizes that his parents' divorce is for the best, just as it's best that he and his monster part ways. You will laugh, cry, and learn a life lesson. One thing is for certain, divorce can be a scary THING.

EDGAR - Xinyue's dead childhood friend. When she finally finds him hiding behind a door in her dream, he gives her a wise, prophetic message about life. Unfortunately, it falls short of Xinyue's distracted ears.

MR. YAM - Xinyue's 50 year old father. He's genuinely concerned about her lack of grieving for Edgar and wants to talk it over with her.

ELISE - Xinyue's friend. She wants just to get back to her responsibilities or sleep before helping Xinyue, but goes along with her since they are friends in the first place and she cares about her well being. She's the annoyed voice of reason who questions Xinyue.

HECTOR - A nerdy boy who Xinyue recruits for his brawn, though he really doesn't have any. He'd rather stay home and watch sci-fi marathons than go out on an advednture. He goes out to help since he realizes Xinyue's fascination with the door and Edgar goes deep back into her childhood, and he cares about her well being.

Casting calls will be on the UT campus, in CMA 3.116, on Saturday, February 18 from 2 to 6 pm. Refreshments will be provided. Since this is a casting call for an animated film, the emphasis will of course be on voice acting and headshots aren't required.
