Do you want to make a difference in a child's life? Do you have at least 1 hour of spare time during the week?
Research shows that mentoring keeps students engaged in the learning process and increases their likelihood of graduation. A primary reason for a child to stay in school is having an adult take interest in their life.
As a mentor and role model, you can inspire a child to develop new interests and career possibilities. Mentors have the great opportunity to learn about the issues facing young people today and potentially develop a lifelong friendship.
There are no special skills required to mentor a student. Mentors are special individuals who want to spend quality time with students in their community. Mentors are good listeners, caring friends and trusted adults.
Commitment:
Meet with one student once a week for 30-60 minutes at a pre-arranged time on the school site for the remainder of the school year. English and bi-lingual speakers are needed.
Before you begin volunteering at AISD schools, you must register on line at www.austinpartners.org for a Safe Schools background check. Training is provided before working with a student. After your background check is approved, we will contact you to register for a training session.
