The Dell TechKnow program is a nation-wide initiative to build desktop computer proficiency in middle school students. This 40 hour after school program targets students without access to technology at home. In this course, AISD students work with refurbished computers provided by Dell and learn to disassemble and reassemble a computer. Students also learn to install software, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, as well as learning to use Microsoft Ofice. Volunteers assist the instructor by providing individual or small group assistance. Upon graduation from the program, students receive a computer to take home plus one year of dial-up Internet service.
The following schools are in need of volunteers:
Garcia Middle School (Tue/Thurs 3:45-5:45pm)
**Sign up now to express interest in volunteering for Fall 2008.**
Interested volunteers can register at www.austinpartners.org for the school they prefer. A Safe Schools background check will be run through registration. Once aapproved, you will be able to begin volunteering in AISD schools. Volunteers should have a moderate knowledge of computers and enjoy being around middle schoolers.
