Compaņeros en Lectura is the Spanish-language version of the Partners in Reading program.
This classroom-based volunteer program helps second graders improve their reading and increase their comprehension in Spanish to eventually become successful English readers. All materials and communication with students are in Spanish and volunteers should have an intermediate level of Spanish to successfully participate. In a structured format, Compaņeros en Lectura provides opportunities for students to listen to fluent reading in Spanish, practice reading aloud in Spanish and receive feedback on their reading.
Volunteers work with groups of 2-4 students once a week for 45 minutes. The entire class participates in the same lesson and the teacher is available for assistance if needed.

Interested volunteers should register at www.austinpartners.org for the opportunity they prefer. Once a Safe Schools background check is approved, the volunteer will be contacted about training.
