December 7 - December 27, 2009
February 1 - February 21, 2010

Ayurveda is a 5000 years old Indian health care system that is widely practiced even today. "Ayur" in Sanskrit means "life" and "Veda" means "science". It is a perfect Science of health and longevity. This holistic science is the knowledge of complete balance of the body, mind and spirit, including the emotions and psychology, on all levels. It includes in its consideration, longevity, rejuvenation and self-realization therapies through herbs, diet, exercise, yoga, massage, aromas, tantras, mantras, and meditation. According to Ayurvedic tradition, health is the balance of elements air, earth, fire, and water, and illness is an excess or deficiency of any particular element. Ayurveda treats illness at its source, rather than at the level of symptoms, and helps an individual to take responsibility for their own health and well being. Ayurveda is also known as 'Ashtanga Veda' (the word literally means 'Eight branches of knowledge') as it is divided into eight specialized branches.
Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India several thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world, encompassing the entire body, mind and spirit. It is the union between a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. The word Yoga means "to join or yoke together," and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience.

International volunteers will be learning the Basics of Yoga and Ayurveda in these three weeks of the project. Every day, there will be topics covered by a professional master (the person in charge of yoga and ayurveda classes), which will be practiced by the volunteers. Yoga will be practiced every day.
Apart from this, the volunteers will also help at the herbal garden and the nearby school. Furthermore, the volunteers will support a local school in need of simple renovation work. The volunteers will also interact with the children teaching them basic English and Mathematics, Health and Hygiene awareness, environmental protection, etc.

The pagoda is now a place of charity for unlucky children and also helps treat diseases. Now, the pagoda is taking care and bringing up more than 200 children in the South of Vietnam. The children here have unfortunate backgrounds as many have been abandoned by their parents and relatives. The head monk sometimes receives phone calls from hospitals requesting him to take in abandoned babies. At the moment, about 200 children are living in the Pagoda, their ages ranging from 5 days old to 40 years old. 90 of these are orphans that are suffering from cerebral-palsy, blindness or Down's syndrome.

Salem Orphanage Home
Salem Orphanage Home was founded in 1992. It is based in Kisumu which is the third largest city in Kenya. Kisumu has a population of approximately 300,000 and is located on Lake Victoria almost on the Ugandan border. In Kisumu, there are many orphans who, without help, would have no future. Salem Orphanage is a home to about 130 orphans who lost their parents (usually to AIDS) and street children from the slums. There are primarily boys, due to the "preference" for girls as household labor help, and the difficulty for boys to stay at home if their mother marries someone other than their father. At Salem they are loved and cared for well, but the need is still so great.

Volunteer work: Volunteers' major duties include:
- Responsible for day-to-day coordination of the Home to ensure efficient performance of the organization operation
- Cooking for the children, washing the children's clothes and counseling
- Teaching the children sports, drama and theatre
- Farming and making "jikos" (cooking pots)
The volunteers will be working from Monday to Saturday. The number of hours will be decided by the Home management.
Special requirements: The Orphanage requires volunteers with counseling and teaching skills; preferably teachers in Math, English or Science and teachers for early childhood education and nursery schooling. However, we have an open policy and applicants with other ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
Volunteers need to contribute/initiate ideas and by that would be promoting the growth of the Orphanage. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to work at a community/grassroot level in capacity building and training in self-sustainability.
Language: English
Duration of the project: The program will run for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 6 months.
Looking for medical care for trade of household services (Austin, TX)

I am looking for a Dr. that is willing to help me with my medical problems. I am a veterinary technician at a clinic in South Austin. I need the job to be albe to take proper care of my six animals (two dogs and four cats), but it has left me without medical insurance. I have a number of heath issues, primarily endometriosis and ovarian cysts. I recently had a pap smear done and have abnormal cells (for the second time) and fear it may be getting worse. I am constantly in pain, and it is getting hard for me to work. I need a biopsy done to determine if these cells are cancer, and if not, what is causing the constant pain. I have been to the doctor multiple times, all they do is send me home with pain medication which is needed. But I would like to fix the cause, not the effect. I would like to find a doctor that is willing to take the time to find out what is actually wrong with me. I have been having these pains for about 2 years now. I was told after I had the surgery for the endometreosis that the pain would go away and it did for about 6mo. The pain is back, it is worse then it was before, and it is more widespread. I am scared that there is possibly something else wrong, but don't have the money to spend on all the test. I am willing to trade pet sitting/animal care. Also my boyfriend is a handyman, and he is willing to trade his services in return as well. If you are willing to help or know of someone that is please call me @ 512-203-2041 ask for Veranda. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

My project will consist of photographing the couple in their home together in 2 situations, together in clothing some where in the home, and together in the nude in on the bed. As hard to believe as it may be, it will not be sexualized positions. Simply sitting together. Here's my website to show it is legitimate: http://www.dmora.com This photography will not be used for commercial usage and only viewed in our classroom. Although it remains among the most traditional areas of the country, it is also the poorest and less developed part in terms of infrastructure or industry; creating a huge rural exodus and migration from the Isan inhabitants to Bangkok. The Khueang Nai District administration wants to dynamize the Deng Mor rural areas and stimulate English learning through the international volunteers' presence. The main target group of the project will be young people and children. Inside this larger framework, each project will address the specific target group in different villages in the Deng Mor area.
Cultural exchange is the main work of the project. The volunteers will discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks. The volunteers will also hold English teaching workshops for the children of several district villages. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the village at the time of the project.
Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the culture of rural Thailand in general and the traditions and specificity of the Isan region. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers.
Special requirements: A correct level of English language and the will to teach it to kids is obviously necessary. The volunteers need also to be motivated to discover Thai culture and to present the one of their country of origin.
Leisure time: Leisure time will be organised by the volunteers with the support of the group leader. The closest city is far but accessible. The region isn't very tourist attractive as such but the nature is of extraordinary beauty: rice fields, small temples and natural parks are all over the region.
New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a traditional Isan house in the community and have access to the same basic conditions as any villager.
Location: The Deng Mor sub-district area is about 20 km far from Khueang Nai city and 60 km north west of Ubon Ratchatani city, in the Isan region, North east of Thailand.
Age range: 18 and over

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-thailand.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries go to: www.cadip.orgor give us a call:
  617-502-0400

     604-628-7400

November 1 - November 13, 2010

Vietnam Friendship Village is a treatment/care centre for Agent Orange victims located in Ha Tay Province, which was opened in 1993 to treat children and veterans suffering from the effects of Agent Orange. The children, whose fathers or grandfathers were exposed (causing chromosomal damage) or who were contaminated from their mother’s milk, suffer from a range of difficult conditions. While staying in Vietnam Friendship Village, children and veterans are nourished and are provided with free medical care. The children, who may stay there for several years, receive not only basic education, but also some forms of job training.
The Organic Gardening Project was launched in 2004 with the goal of creating islands of a harmonious approach to agriculture within areas of environmental and human devastation - increasing awareness of the consequences of war and, at the same time, demonstrating positive strategies for healing and living. At this moment, the farm is providing about 60% of the village’s consumption of vegetable. It is expected that it will cover all the needs and there will be products left for sale to raise funds for the village.
Volunteers will help with clearing the site, preparing soil, weeding, planting vegetables and fruit trees, cleaning a fish pond and redecorating the flowers in the garden. Additional activities may include planting trees, moving bricks for construction, collecting garbage and playing with the children or exchanging with local volunteers or farmers.
Discussions among the volunteers about Agent Orange, Vietnamese culture, and other social issues will take place during some of the evenings.
In the project from January 25 to February 6, 2010, the volunteers will focus on preparing Tet New Year Festival for the children in the Village. The work then includes redecorating the houses and making of Chung Cake – a traditional cake for this holiday in Vietnam.
Special requirements: Interest and motivation working with children in difficult situation.

I am almost ashamed to post here but at the same time i realise i need to ask for some help and i am willing to put my pride aside for a second. A little bit about me, I am not a homeless person or nothing like that , but i have made alot of bad decisions in life (not criminal) just financial and workwise. I grew up without a father (therefore i was left to figure stuff out for myself) so when i graduated high school i thought if i joined the army i would learn something, well just my luck as soon as i finished basic training and AIT i found myself getting shipped out to desert storm. (nothing nice trust me) i came back to fort hood and got married,(now divorced) i just want to kinda find a person who is succesful to mentor me or hang around with to kind of re-invent my life, i lost my wife, home to her all my furniture and cars, but i have a car now thanks to god. only see my kids on 2 weekends a month and for the last month i have been layed off, and to be honest i have started drinking beer and i know im messing up staying at home all day depressed. So if anyone has a lil advise or wants to take on a lost person and kinda guide me a lil to have a regular job and life PLEEEEAAAASE drop me a line. I have been listening to this radio show here in austin by a guy called dave ramsey, so im kinda getting on the right path, but i wanna actually hang around a successful person in real life to get motivated to get my butt out there and be a proud person again.

Meals on Wheels needs bilingual Care Callers! (Austin, Texas)

Care Calls is a telephone reassurance program that matches homebound elderly and disabled Meals on Wheels clients with volunteers to have enriching conversations over the phone a few times a week. The aim of this program is to foster friendship and, in doing so, to alleviate some of the isolation and loneliness that many homebound people experience.

Care Calls enables volunteers to spend quality one-on-one time with clients. It allows individuals to develop relationships with one another in an organic way, and relate to one another on a more personal level. After a time, many volunteers start visiting their matches in person. The sky’s the limit when it comes to forming a great relationship with your match.

This program is flexible, as all you need is a phone and fifteen minutes. Also, calls can be made anywhere- it’s is an ideal way for volunteers to give of their time and talents at home, during regular breaks at work, while taking a walk or even while out of town. Phone friend calls are made two to three times each week at a time decided on by the volunteer and client. Daily calls are brief, and are placed Monday through Friday to check on the client’s well being.

	Must be 18 years of age or older.

Since 1999 the ex-Convent San Giorgio, a Volunteering Permanent Centre, has hosted hundreds of volunteers in different occasions. The Convent is situated in the region of Abruzzo, centre of Italy, about 150 km away from Rome. It has been fully restored by the local institution Mountain Community and furnished following as much as possible the "static free" standards.
The project aims to bring new economic, tourist and especially cultural and spiritual movements in a quite isolated area. It deals with sustainable living, no waste, recycling and clever use of energies.
As every year international volunteer groups will spend some days at the ex Convento San Giorgio: a good chance to meet people from all over the world, to know a bit of Italian culture, getting in touch with permaculture and sustainable living; all this while staying in a Convent of the XVII century and discovering the beautiful Park of Sirente–Velino.
This is a special project in which international volunteers will help to collect olives in the field. The field is about 45 minutes away from the Convent (by car). During this period volunteers will be spending the day in the field. Work can be hard for some who are not used to it.

This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected.
This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops.
After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school.
Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs.
Age range: 18 and over
Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

For volunteer opportunities in other countries click here: www.cadip.org

Austin Pets Alive! goes to the TLAC animal shelter every night and pulls cats and kittens off of the Euthanasia list the night before they are scheduled to die. All of them live in foster homes until they are adopted, but without more homes, we can't save more lives! We need the community's help to save these wonderful pets.

Fostering involves keeping the cat or kittens inside and providing food, water, litter and lots of love until they are adopted. We have adoption events all over the city where you can bring them to get adopted. We pay for all medical care and also test them for FeLV/FIV, spay/neuter, vaccinate , treat for fleas/worms, and microchip them before adoption.

If you can open your home to a cat or kitten facing euthanasia, please got to our website and fill out a foster application. One of our volunteers will get back to you within 48 hours. http://creator.zoho.com/austinpetsalive/forms/#Form:Foster_Application

Be a part of the effort to help more students go to college! This program focuses on informing and preparing high school students who are eligible to graduate but are not currently passing the more stringent TSI/College Readiness Standard.

Volunteers can be speakers and/or tutors to prepare for the entrance exams. Students benefit from meeting community professionals and college students who bring relevance and importance to this process. Volunteer in one or several of the following areas:

Classroom Speakers: Volunteers will speak to students about the benefits of a college education and what it takes to be prepared for college. Volunteer speakers are trained and provided with suggestions, but are encouraged to share their own experiences about their paths toward college and career.

Test Prep Tutors: Volunteers will guide small collaborative study groups with 3-4 students grouped by their specific academic needs for college entrance exams. Study materials including individualized study plans are provided. Tutoring sessions will be offered from October through May; there will be during school and after school opportunities for tutoring. Volunteers may indicate a specific subject to tutor.

Do you want to make a difference in a child's life? Do you have at least 1 hour of spare time during the week?

Research shows that mentoring keeps students engaged in the learning process and increases their likelihood of graduation. A primary reason for a child to stay in school is having an adult take interest in their life.

As a mentor and role model, you can inspire a child to develop new interests and career possibilities. Mentors have the great opportunity to learn about the issues facing young people today and potentially develop a lifelong friendship.

There are no special skills required to mentor a student. Mentors are special individuals who want to spend quality time with students in their community. Mentors are good listeners, caring friends and trusted adults.

Commitment:
Meet with one student once a week for 30-60 minutes at a pre-arranged time on the school site for the remainder of the school year. English and bi-lingual speakers are needed.

Before you begin volunteering at AISD schools, you must register on line (www.austinpartners.org) for a Safe Schools background check. Training is provided before working with a student.

Read the information below and if it sounds interesting and you would like to learn more, send an email to:
austinmentors@yapinc.org
What are Mentoring Services?:
The mentor is a trusted guide, coach and friend who assists and encourages youth to fulfill goals they have set for education, vocation, and a drug/alcohol free life style. Mentors will make a connection with a youth and use that connection to convey these messages: the youth is a valuable human being and that the mentor will offer by words and actions ways to increase the likelihood of youth achieving their goals.
Volunteer mentors will provide at least 6 hours per month of mentoring services of referred youth. Mentoring services will include but need not be limited to the following:
„«	Serve as a role model
„«	Provide support, encouragement, and positive feedback and perspectives
„«	Serve as a confidant and resource when personal, job, and educational problems occur.
„«	Recommend methods for youth to problem-solve, develop specific job related skills, present effective behavior and how to function in a work environment
„«	Serve as a guide and source of information regarding careers, career development techniques and career planning
„«	Establish a trust relationship between a caring, responsible adult and a referred youth
„«	Influence through trust
„«	Advise youth regarding appropriate behavior including role modeling
„«	Help the youth to develop a positive perspective
„«	Homework assistance and tutoring
What are the Mentor Qualifications?:
„«	Age 21 or older, current need for male mentors
„«	Willing to attend training specially designed to give the mentor information about the youth being served, the do¡¦s and don¡¦ts of mentoring, the laws
regarding the mentor/youth relationship, program purpose, basic adolescent development, and helping youth obtain outline goals and objectives (6-8 hours).
„«	Consent to a comprehensive background check that includes criminal, driving and sex offender history.
„«	Obtain and keep current automobile liability insurance in the amount of 100/300 (YAP will off-set the cost for this increase if necessary, more on that when you contact us)
The Western Ghats is India's prime zone for bio-diversity, known for its number of animal and plant species in this region. A Marine Turtle protection project has been started here in co-operation with the Forest Department of the State of Karnataka. Over a 60-kilometer stretch of beach, surveys are conducted and the turtle nests are protected until the hatching of the eggs. In 2007, more than 1500 baby turtles reached the ocean safely thanks to the efforts of international volunteers. This year again we continue these efforts. The projects will also focus on spreading awareness to the general public and in the schools about the importance of turtles in the bio-diversity.

Academic Coaches Needed! Tutor a Child in Need! (All of Austin)

Wonderful Volunteer Opportunity!
The Arc of the Capital Area’s Academic Coach Program is looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and dedicated people from the community to volunteer their time to help a child in need, learn and grow! Time commitments asked of volunteer coaches are at least one hour a week for six months, with the hope they can stay on for a full year with a student.
The Academic Coach Program services children and young adults with developmental disabilities enrolled in special education from kindergarten – 12th grades.
Volunteering to be an Academic Coach would give you an opportunity to change the life of a child and their family in an extraordinary way, by making education exciting and fun!
Volunteers and clients are matched by location and need and meet at the student’s home or at a local library for sessions. The student’s parents or guardian will always be present at the meetings to support the child and coach as needed.
If you are interested in making a difference for these children and their parents by supporting education and having fun, please contact The Arc of the Capital Area at 512-476-7044 and ask for Genessee Klemm or email us at: arc.academic.coach@gmail.com
The city has recorded history dating back a thousand years and a mythical history which explains the origin of the name - apparently, this was the place where the demon Mahishasura was slain by the Goddess Chamundi. You will find a statue of the demon on Chamundi hill which commemorates this event.

The mission of this project is to:
- Organize a multi-purpose project to involve the community and sensitize the local people about the Health & Hygiene problems.
- Educate the children to build a better and more conscious society.
- Spread awareness on Women rights issues and social welfare;
I read your story. When you said you moved away from your baby, I thought you were talking about your child, not a woman.
OMG!!! You're an idiot. I wish I had many computers to flag your post. There are so many people out there that need money for REAL problems
and you want money so that you can go back home. You'll probably never read this and I don't care, but you are one of the most selfish
idiots I have seen post out there in a long time.
People are losing their jobs and homes left and right and you want money so that you can get back the woman you left.
I hope she already has another man who will appreciate her, and not dump her like you did. JACKASS!!!!

February 6 - February 20, 2010

The Pandan village is located in Rembang regency. The word ‘Pandan’ itself means such kind of leaf which smells good and it can also be used to make a plaited mat.The village provides natural scenery and is far away from polution. This is a pilot project in an elementary school in Rembang regency intended to give some contributions to the educational program in the school and influence positively the develpment of the village, while promoting international solidarity and intercultural encounters. In this context, a team of international volunteers is invited to take part both in renovating the area and in educational activities.
The project will be in Pandan Elementary School with around 100 students and 10 local teachers. The volunteers will help in the renovation and painting of the local school. The educational activities with the children will involve mainly teaching English and basic hygiene practices like cleaning hands, cutting nails, etc.
Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities.
Leisure time: During the free time, the volunteers may visit Goa Akbar (Big Cave) and Goa Maharani (Maharani Cave). Near these caves, there is a tourist site called Wisata Bahari Lamongan (the site lies along the beach and is completed with some interesting games, performances and a swimming pool).
