Responsibilities include writing, editing and managing freelancers. The editor will cultivate and maintain local freelance writers and editorial sources, to include bloggers, and local photographers, as well as attend local amateur sports events and races. The ideal candidate should enjoy fitness-oriented sports and expect to participate in athletic events. Applicants should have at least 2 years of journalism experience, preferably with a background in either feature writing or sports writing. They should be able to generate strong story ideas. Competitor is a monthly magazine that covers amateur, participatory sports including running, cycling and triathlon. Knowledge of at least some of these sports is preferred.  Create and maintain an Examiner presence to highlight key happenings within the city, welcome new Examiners to the edition, interact with the community <br>

SUMMARY
<br>
We are seeking an effective Website Content Coordinator with a background in high-volume data entry, a flair for editing, and an interest in online marketing. This role requires an exceptional eye for detail and the desire to join a company that builds best-in-class Websites to promote consumer products and services. This is an ideal position for a detail-oriented individual with experience in daily content management, data entry/management in a fast-paced environment, or Web quality assurance.
<br>

<br>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<br>
Maintain Current Websites 
<br>
    *  Use our proprietary content management system to modify current Websites, improving the effectiveness of marketing and promotional copy for conversion and improved search engine rankings
<br>
    * Update product pricing, special offers and coupon codes as necessary
<br>
    * Update and edit copy to conform to Website style, SEO best practices, and other publishing requirements
<br>
    * Manage and maintain content, links and products within multiple databases
<br>

<br>
Testing and Link Management 
<br>
    *  Test Websites regularly to ensure that content, products, links and services are up-to-date and Websites are working properly
<br>
    * Test Websites at all stages of development for errors, and suggest improvements
<br>
    * Update landing page links using various affiliate systems
<br>

<br>
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
<br>
The ideal candidate:
<br>
    *  Has a bachelor's degree in business, English, journalism, advertising or communications from a four-year college or university
<br>
    * Has 1-2 years of experience in Web content management, preferably working on multiple Websites
<br>
    * Has experience in high volume data entry in an environment where speed and accuracy are essential
<br>
    * Possesses excellent writing and editing skills for content and development, as well as proficiency adjusting style for a specific audience and situation
<br>
    * Brings to the position outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines
<br>
    * Competently uses search engines to research products and services and recommend how products should be promoted on the Web
<br>
    * Possesses proficiency with Excel and/or a relational database (strongly preferred)
<br>
    * Has basic HTML skills (preferred)
<br>
    * Frequently shops online and is familiar with marketing practices employed by popular e-commerce sites (preferred)
<br>
    * Understands Website development processes and content management systems (preferred)
<br>

	Were hoping to find a student or recent graduate who is passionate about journalism, understands the foundations of good reporting and can write clear, well-researched stories. You would primarily be assigned feature stories, with some possible business or political reporting. <br>
We can be flexible with the time requirement, but would like at least 24 hours per month from you. We would also be open to a bigger time commitment, or could split the position between two interns. <br>
Familiarity with Hays County is a plus, and all stories will involve the Buda-Kyle area. <br>
The position is unpaid, but we will work with you to improve your reporting skills and produce good clips for your portfolio.
