Staff Accountant (Austin)

compensation: $30/hour
employment type: part-time

I own my own CPA firm that provides accounting and HR services to several start-ups in the Austin and beyond. I am looking for a part-time Staff Accountant to assist me with many financial matters of my clients. This is a part time job position with flexible hours but strict deadlines. I am looking for someone who will primarily work from home, starting at 15 hours a week with the potential to grow, but will be able to meet with me on a regular basis in the Central or West Austin area. This Staff Accountant should be self-motivated, self-directed, well organized and able to multi-task and switch between clients with ease. Th is position is extremely fast-paced. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, be able to work well under pressure, meet hard deadlines, and have excellent communication and presentation skills . You must have a strong proficiency in the use of QuickBooks Online. This job requires heavy excel use. You must be very adept in excel. You will need to have your own laptop, fast Internet and a quiet place to work in order to attend conference calls and focus on the tasks at hand.

• Update and appropriately record clients transactions weekly
• Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for all clients
• Help owner review cash flow and manage accordingly

Accounts Payable
• Enter invoices
• Pay bills as directed via online bill pay
• Review vendor statements
• Prepare A/P aging reports for Owner/Client bill pay approval
• Examine/record client credit card transactions
• Oversee scanning and electronic filing of payables

Client Invoicing & Deposits
• Prepare client invoices correctly in QuickBooks Online
• Record deposits in QuickBooks Online

• Process payroll for approx 5 clients
• Properly record payroll semi-monthly including expense reimbursements

Month End Close Process
• Complete month end close process for approx 5 clients will minimal errors
• Properly record and amortize prepaid expenses and fixed assets
• Review monthly P&L and Balance Sheets for errors/corrections
• Rollforward Balance Sheet accounts

• Record journal entries for clients as necessary
• Conduct research on any outstanding or unexplained items
• Respond to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness and make recommendations to supervisor
• Assist with year-end tax reporting preparation (1099's, W-2's etc)
• Record billable hours daily
• Work collaboratively and regularly communicate with owner
• Be available to attend meetings including weekly or biweekly firm meetings and client meetings as necessary
• Other projects as required

• College degree required 
• 3-5 years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience required
• Strong understanding of GAAP and cash basis accounting
• Absolutely must be proficient in all aspects of the use of QuickBooks Online
• Must be VERY proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, specifically Microsoft Excel
• Must be internet literate and be comfortable in an online environment; Online software currently used by clients include Expensify, Gusto, Stripe, Paypal, etc.
• Excellent Organizational Skills. Ability to keep neat and accurate records in cloud filing systems that are organized and easily accessible
• Maintain a calendar and schedule appointments
• Demonstrate common sense and judgment in day to day matters
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Positive attitude
• Detail oriented, proactive, and efficient
• Must be able to multi-task among various clients and prioritize based on deadlines/urgency
• Neat, clean, and appropriate appearance when meeting with clients, both video based meetings and in person

• $30/hour W-2 wages with paid holidays and PTO
• Minimum of 15 billable hours per week on average to start; some weeks may require more hours and some weeks may be less. Hours are deadline driven
• Flexible work schedule with ability to primarily work from home (ideally during the hours of 9am - 2pm everyday with flexibility). However, since this is a client service position, staff accountant MUST be able to timely respond to client and company emails and calls during normal business hours throughout the week). Weekly or biweekly firm and/or client meetings may be required.
