condition: good
size / dimensions: 12 X 16
I have a 12 X 16 photograph album that belonged to an officer of the former U.S.S.R. It is a real piece of photograph history of that country and I hate to let it go. This interesting album was purchased in May 1994 by American collector Richard Waskow from the former Lenin Museum, Kyiv, Ukraine after the fall of the Communist regime. I bought it a few months later at the Austin City-Wide Garage Sale. It has 40 photos that follow the life of a Russian officer from 1928 until World War 2 through various military schools, etc. with some students blacked out. Several images have Cyrillic notes, but they are all Greek to me. I've been calling the friendly-looking owner, Colonel Gyko (pictured) for thirty years, but that is only because his name is hard to read. A historian friend translated his complete name into English as Mikhail Aleksandrovich Buchovskiu, but I'm not sure that is completely accurate. It was always my intention to research Col. Gyko further, but I never got around to it as I became more interested in other areas of history. Hopefully, the purchaser will do so and increase the album's value.
