For sale is a very interesting original antique picture from the late 1800s photographer W.G. Ireland. The bottom of the placard reads “W.G. Ireland, Traveling Artists, Kyle, Texas”. The picture showcases a gathering of townsfolk dressed up with some wearing ribbons. Records show that WG Ireland was a traveling artist in Central Texas area in the 1880-1920 time period. Kyle, Texas was officially established in 1880, could this be some of the early founders and settlers of Kyle, Texas? I had some local historians say this pic may possibly have been taken at the “Auction Oak” that is now a historical marker. The site was where they held property auctions and such. I was going to take it at some point to the Hays County Archives at Texas State University but just don’t have the extra time for the research. A very cool early local piece that may just have some interesting fellers in it.
