This is quite a large engraving from 1887. Excellent piece for any dog lover or hunter. I was only able to find one other in existence, a black and white version of this, "The Run of the Season", in the British Museum archives. This particular engraving was created in full color as an artist's proof (test print) before any printing run was made. It has the Printsellers Association raised stamp that verifies that this is indeed a one-of-a-kind proof. It is signed in pencil by the artists Thomas Blinks and Joseph B Pratt, both of whom were regularly commissioned by British royalty and are world renowned. The detail is amazing. You really must see it in person to appreciate it.
At the very top of the engraving in fine print it says, "London Published May 7th, 1887 by Arthur Tooth & Sons 5&6 Haymarket S.W. Copyright Registered. Entered According to Act of Congress in the Year 1887 by Mess xx Knoedler & Co. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington. Mess xx Steifbold & Co. Berlin."
There is discoloration throughout the piece that is easily seen in the sky area of the print. This is quite understandable considering it's age. The black and white version in the British Museum archives has more discoloration than this one. The engraving is still in it's original frame.
The price is more than fair and may even be a steal for what this is so no offers please.
