History Ajinomoto Co., Inc.:
Ajinomoto Co. was founded in Japan in 1909 by Professor Kikunae Ikeda and businessman Saburosuke Suzuki II, based on Ikeda's discovery of umami, the savory taste, in glutamic acid. The company was established to market this umami seasoning, branded as AJI-NO-MOTO®, with the goal of improving Japanese nutrition. Over the years, Ajinomoto expanded globally and diversified beyond food, leveraging its expertise in amino acids to develop products for pharmaceuticals, health, and electronic materials, with its initial focus on MSG, a type of amino acid.
