A wonderful folk art pottery piece for Southwest / Western / Rustic decor
Beautiful Mexican pottery duck or bird in colors of cobalt blue, green, beige and brown. The beige pottery has a matte finish and the hand-painted floral designs have a glossy finish.
Made in Mexico and signed by the artist with initials in bottom.
History
One thing that distinguishes Tonalá made ware is the decorative details. Two elements, the nahual and the "flor de Tonalá" are common. A nahual is a pre-Hispanic shape shifter or shaman, often drawn as a smiling cat. The flor de Tonalá (Tonalá flower) first appeared in pottery design in the early 20th century.
