Design Intern – Residential & Commercial Construction (Austin, TX)
Hi, I'm a designer focused on residential and commercial construction & remodeling based in Austin, and I'm looking for a motivated Design Intern who wants hands-on experience in real projects—not just busy work.
This role is ideal for someone early in their design career who has some design experience (school, personal projects, or early professional work), is eager to learn, and is comfortable talking with people.
About the Role:
Work directly with a lead designer on residential and commercial remodels
Assist with design concepts, space planning, and material selections
Attend client appointments and help consult with homeowners
Learn how real-world design decisions are made—from concept to construction
Gain exposure to the sales side of design and client relationships
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship during the training phase
Once trained and attending appointments independently or semi-independently, you will earn commission-based compensation
Strong opportunity for growth for the right person
Who We’re Looking For:
Some design experience (formal education helpful, but not required)
Interest in residential and commercial construction/remodeling
Comfortable with sales and client interaction (this is important)
Personable, confident, and professional
Willing to go to in-person appointments around Austin
Reliable transportation
Based in or near the Austin area
This is a great fit if you are:
A design student or recent graduate
Transitioning into interior or architectural design
Interested in learning how design, construction, and sales actually work together
Motivated, coachable, and not afraid to talk to clients
