Up for sale is a late 1952 Singer 15-91 sewing machine, "The" sewing machine of sewing machines, considered by many as one of if not the best straight stitch machine ever made.
Complete, missing nothing, with light use so VG+ shape in light of its age with a mechanical refresh which includes the "potted" gear driven motor (completely disassembled, rewired with copper, new grommet, new lubrication wicks and premium formulated grease from Sew Retro specifically made for the Singer gear driven motors, cleaned, carbon brushes cleaned or replaced as needed, commutator cleaned), light re-wired, all internal and lower lubrication points oiled, cleaned of all lint including bobbin area and lubricated, original Bakelite pedal disassembled and cleaned and rewired (also with copper). New bobbin winding rubber wheel installed.
Serial number AL105659 indicates that this specific machine was commissioned on Sept 23rd, 1952. I intended to retain this as my personal machine and rebuilt it as such, but another very high quality 15-91 came to my attention, and I have decided to offer this one to a discerning buyer. This is a one owner unit (passed to the child of the original owner), and sat in an air conditioned environment for its last 20 years with very light use throughout its lifetime. Just enough wear to make it not pristine and therefore no guilt in using it, but better than 99 out of 100 machines you will come across and definitely after the refurbishment. It'll run for another lifetime with proper care.
I did not put any effort into aesthetic improvements other than dusting it off, and the flash makes the finish seem less good than it really is IMO. Having said that, these "Japanned" (lacquered) finishes do require no solvents for cleaning so learn that if this is your first mid-century Singer machine before cleaning (basically just use sewing machine oil for cleaning).
A later year table (model #72 I think) is included for free but not required that you take it and I can install the machine in it, but recommend transporting separately and assembly at its destination. This model does require either a base or table as the rotating mechanism goes below the cast feet by the nature of the design. This specific table was painted at some point when brown was popular (70's/early 80's), and I received it from the daughter of the original owner, who provided the story. It may take just some paint stripper and oiling to remove the paint and bring back to somewhat original state- unknown.
Will include three bobbins, two bobbin pins, the table, one original refurbished foot controller and a class 15 needle.
If the ad is up, it is still available. $250 Firm, cash, local transaction up front, delivery within 20 miles of Round Rock can be arranged after business hours or potentially weekends if I am in town for cost of gas (I get 10mpg so 4 gallons at current average price for regular) with table separated from the unit, free install when I am at your delivery point if desired.
