This is a Murphy bed from the More Space Place (Burnet at Anderson). we’ve had this Murphy bed for quite a number of years, and it’s worked well the whole time. Almost all of the time we’ve either had it down or we’ve had it up. We’re now changing the purpose of the room and for that reason the Murphy bed needs to go.
They always have new designs, so they don’t currently have this exact one. but I asked the lady there how much this one would cost if you wanted to buy it now. She said between $5,000 and $6,000. We’re asking $450 but could be negotiable on the price. (We paid the More Space Place $300 to uninstall this Murphy bed).
One thing that we will insist upon is that the uninstall and reinstall be done by the More Space Place so that we both are ensured of a good result. These beds have big springs to make them easy to raise and lower, and as such, they are dangerous to install and uninstall. This uninstall and relocate service is something that the More Space Place offers. What I was quoted was $600 for that service. This depends on whether they’re going to the first floor or the second floor, etc. They’ve already done the de-install.
The bed has two reading lights at the top, controlled by a brass touch switch in the far corner. There is a safety switch to ensure that the lights are not on when the bed is closed, so it’s not a fire hazard. There are three levels for the lights: low, medium, high, and of course, off. So maybe that makes four.
The overall width is just a bit over 70” bed and bookshelf.
The bookshelf on the left side has two adjustable shelves and a door, with one shelf. The width of the bookcase is 10.5”
The overall height is 84” a.k.a. 7 foot.
The depth is about 21 inches.
The space for the mattress is about 55 inches wide and 75” long. There’s a lip about 4 inches tall to hold the mattress in place. There’s a bar that folds down and provides support when the bed is open, and folds up and holds the mattress in place when the bed is closed.
It comes with the mattress if you like, or we can hang onto that and dispose of it, if you want to start with a new mattress
