A Morris chair is a type of reclining armchair that originated in the 19th century and became a staple of the Arts and Crafts movement. The Morris chair is named after William Morris, the 19th-century British designer and pioneer of the Arts and Crafts movement. The earliest models were produced by Morris & Co. in the 1860s. It typically features:
- A solid hardwood frame
- Wide, flat or the more desirable bowed armrests
- Slated or Spindle armrest supports
- Reclining back (you adjust the backrest on this one by 3 peg settings, just like the original 1860’s Morris chairs)
- Thick, removable cushions
This Morris chair is a timeless piece of furniture design. It is instantly recognizable, incredibly comfortable, and deeply rooted in traditional craftsmanship. The chair measures 34.5”W x 37”D x 40”H
