I have an absolutely stunning, completely tame young white ringneck dove hen available. She was hatched in March 2025.
When she was just one week old, I began hand-feeding her and her sibling. The sibling, a male, has already found his forever home.
I created a strong bond between these doves and humans through regular handling and feeding. I typically do not invest this much time in hand-raising doves due to the commitment involved, but the results are worth it. A human-bonded dove makes a fantastic pet, as they form a strong bond with their owner and become affectionate companions.
This dove is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a pet bird that will fly to you, provide cuddles, cluck, give kisses, eat from your hand, and want to be near you.
One benefit of having a tame dove over a tame hookbill is that doves are quiet; they do not bite or chew on things like hookbills might. However, it’s important to note that doves cannot mimic or talk; in my opinion, they are not as intelligent as hookbills.
Additionally, you cannot clip a dove's wings since they rely on their beaks for climbing.
This dove is female, so she won’t bow-coo to you as a bonded male would. I have a bonded male who bow-coos constantly and even tries to mate with my hands, so much so that I had to give him a stress ball to "mate" with while he gazes at me! With a female, you won't have to deal with that behavior.
She knows how to step up on command without being touched and can fly from a perch to a human arm. She enjoys playing a game called "bug squish" on my phone and loves her night light.
Doves can live for about 15 to 20 years, so she needs someone committed who won't tire of her company.
