NEW DUCKS AVAILABLE, THIS BATCH IS 1 YEAR OLD AND LAYING EGGS!!
I have several Muscovy duck breeding groups available; they're approximately 1 year old. A breeding group is 1 drake and 4 hens. Each hen will sit on about 20 eggs when they go broody. If you don't want babies, please eat their eggs. Duck eggs, especially Muscovy eggs, are considered a delicacy. Their eggs are far superior to chicken eggs, and their meat is also highly prized, as this is the #2 largest duck in the world.
Breed Temperament & Description:
Please read this part, as this little bit of education will help you decide whether you want them or not :)
Muscovys have the best temperament out of all ducks; they're also known as the "quackless duck." Not only are these ducks friendly and very easy to tame, but they're also super quiet! If you live in a neighborhood with an HOA, difficult neighbors, or just don't want anyone to know you have animals, Muscovys are perfect for you! They're also very cost effective, as they like to forage grass, vegetation, and bugs that they find instead of relying on store bought feeds.
Often considered a downside, Muscovys occasionally fly. However, this is usually not a big deal, as they only fly from predators and come back. Out of all of my ducks, I haven't lost a single Muscovy to predation. This is extremely important, as many people in Texas have dangerous animals in their backyards.
Pros:
✅️ They're the most heat resistant duck. My Mallard derived breeds overheat very quickly, whereas my Muscovys will still be walking around even when it's 107 degrees outside.
✅️ They don't drink, play, or need as much water as regular ducks and aren't as messy as Mallard derived breeds. This means you will have fewer flies and far less smell compared to other breeds.
✅️ They rarely rip their webbing and even more rarely get bumblefoot. This is what I would call a deal maker, since it means you won't have trips to the vet.
✅️ They're more parasite resistant than standard ducks. I've never had to deworm any of them.
Cons:
❎️ If you want them for meat, it takes AT LEAST 20 WEEKS for them to reach a good size. I know many places online say 12 weeks, but that's FALSE. The reason this is a con is because Pekins (often incorrectly called "Peking") reach 8 pounds at only 8 weeks of age. Muscovys can get to a comparable size at 20 to 24 weeks of age. This means they're much slower growers.
❎️ They can fly. Although I consider this a perk, it's also a double edged sword. As long as you keep them in for about 2 weeks, they won't fly away, as they'll know their new home.
❎️ I wouldn't pick them up too often, as they have much sharper and stronger claws than normal ducks.
