I'm too old to ride, so I'm selling three of my most iconic saddles. All three have been reworked with new riggings and leather. I just wanted to let you know that nothing is needed on them. I keep them in my office on display where I write novels.
1) Buck Steiner saddle (far right, 14”). I have owned it since 1964, when I was 14.
2) Billy Cook saddle (center, 17"). His saddles were meticulously hand-tooled. He was one of the best saddle makers in Texas. In 1953, a young Billy Cook opened his saddle shop in Greenville, Texas. There are a new saddle tree and custom-made saddle bags.
3) Frank Vela (far left, 16") in Floresville, Texas. Frank Vela's saddles had a reputation for quality that spread throughout Texas and beyond until he died in 1959. Vela saddles were in demand by ranchers, cowboys, rodeo performers, and movie stars. They are collector’s items today.
Two years ago, I decided to have my Dad's Frank Vela saddle (made safe by Slade Paradeaux of Slade Saddle Shop in Luling) repaired. Slade worked for Frank Vela in Uvalde. He did an incredible job inspecting, repairing,
and replacing everything needed. He also did the same for my Billy Cook and Buck Steiner saddles.
Call Slade Paradeaux of Slade Saddle Shop in Luling if you're serious. He will vouch for me and the three saddles.
