This is a circa 1918 (shortly after the sinking of the Titanic) WW1 officers "trench" watch.
This watch has been professionally overhauled Made of solid sterling silver w/14k gold back!
The workmanship put into this watch is incredible . I guess only like they did over 100 years ago. Can you imagine buying a watch today with a combination of real silver and gold as well as porcelain dial, yes porcelain
This watch is what wrist watches looked like in their infancy.
The watch:Excellent, superior overall condition. A fabulous American made trench watch , Sterling silver with a 14k gold case back
Inside the back cover is the engraved name: ”G.E.Earnshaw Jr“.
This circa 1918 Waltham watch numbers among the earliest of American wristwatches, as
are all WW1 era pieces, which is when wristwatches began to replace the pocket watch. A period correct handmade black leather
“Saddler” belt band for an authentic period look completes the watch nicely. In 1918 bands were handmade!
WW1 Waltham Sterling 3/0 size “trench watch“, 7 jewel recently overhauled movement. Good sized piece measuring 31.5 diameter.
American trench , very cool watch in great condition.
The details: So many "Trench" watches have replaced crowns, usually horrid Rhodium plated bits from the 50's, that it is a real treat
to find a period correct crown as seen on this watch. Non-period crowns can be one sign of a poor restoration, as committed restorers make
sure that the better pieces are correct in all the details, and make the hard, costly effort required to find correct hands, crowns, crystals
and other bits. Non period parts may seriously devalue a watch. The blue steel hands are Waltham
factory originals, oxide free blue steel.
The porcelain dial, in fancy Arabic numerals is as nice as the day
it was made 100 years ago. The crystal is glass with no chips or scratches.
the watch is fitted with a black leather handmade "Saddlers" strap, the exact band intended for this
case style, 19+mm black, about 9" long..
The case: Case in excellent condition.. Case is signed “WALTHAM“, 14K GOLD ON STERLING SILVER“ a rare example of an early factory signed case.. “Wire lug” case designed for a belt strap to slide neatly under the case, 3/ 0 size, 3 piece
case, with friction fit bezel, and back.. Measures 31.5 mm excluding the crown, and 42mm lug end to lug end. The case is "hand" buffed.
The movement: Waltham 3/0 7 jewel movement.
