01 Honda XR650L approx 11,3xx miles, chassis fully tricked (except battery and sub frame gussets). Has all the best parts, over $11k invested, only owned by mature riders, this engine has never seen brown oil - it is spotless (brand new looking) under the valve adjuster caps. This bike was set-up for the Mexico ride (TWT), and the CDR, although I later thought about the TAT and several of the BDR rides. This XR will go where very few others can follow and in comfort. If you don't know what any of the initials are above - this might not be the right motorcycle for you. You need to be an experienced rider, have an approx. 33" inseam (I do and it's tippy toes for me), and around 200 lbs + or - a bit if you want it dialed in for you.
This 650L has an "R" front end with Scotts steering damper, raised upper triple clamp, Pro Taper EVO high bars, with Barkbusters loaded - (all options including integrated blinkers, supermoto guards and bar-end weights, over $350), Double Take mirrors, Oxford Adventure heated grips, and I also installed a dual usb power hub behind the headlight shroud. Not including the front forks is $1500+ in parts alone, painted (where necessary) black to match the bars and installed the way Honda would have done it if they offered it that way. There is a 50/50 chance the forks have had the shim stack redone and had gold valves (or emulators) installed because of the stickers that were on them when purchased. The front end was such a major improvement (no comparison to the stock "L") that I felt no need to service them if not going on an epic ride. The wheels front and rear are Excel's with rose gold nipples and Buchanan Stainless spokes. The tires are Heidenau K60 Scout's with EBC oversized Ft. rotor, braided stainless steel brake lines with "red" sintered pads. The rear is the same except has a Galfer "wave" rotor, and DOT 4 in both. New nicer looking ft. and rear fenders (from XR's Only) with Led tail light inner fender (Baja Designs) custom "adapted" to fit. Has a Dirt Bike Gear (handmade) tool kit (fender bag) and moving forward a Renazco Racing seat, then a Clarke 4.3 gal fuel tank with custom graphics to look like the stock tank with a Giant Loop tank bag (great). I have recently added a wind screen I have been playing with. There is no comparison on the comfort and suspension (ft.) of this to a stock "L" and this bike proves you can make an off-roader comfortable in spite of the nay-sayers. The engine has had all the usual's including Dave's mods (rejet), de-smogged, de-snorkled, new aircleaner, welds ground on header, added the FMF Q4 and XR400 oil cooler w/braided lines, modded headlight shroud with plenum, XR's Only foot pegs, oil temp gauge, and case saver, bash guard drilled (for cooling and weight), and brand new DID "O"-Ring chain and I'm probably forgetting a bunch of stuff. Lots of spares come with this incl. the stock tank (in great condition) and just about everything I took off of it, a brand new Regina "X" chain with 14 and 15 tooth "R" counter-shaft sprockets and a 48 tooth rear Iron-Man aluminum sprocket, 2nd gear from Japan and 5th gear OD for re-gearing transmission if you want to take it apart, I also have various other bolts, hardware, paint etc...
If you wanted you could pull the engine, put in a 10 1/2 to 1 compression piston, Stage 1 or 2 cam, regear the tranny, maybe put in a Barnett clutch while you're there and you would have a bike that would run on regular pump gas would have plenty of power, would be reliable as hell, would be easy to get parts for (globally), and could literally go around the planet on trails or making your own. Bikes like this don't come up much, this is the real deal, everything done the way Honda should have done it.
The reason I'm selling is I have recently lost a dear friend I was hoping to do one or more of the listed rides with and I don't feel like going alone or with riders who's abilities I'm unfamiliar with. I am more interested in touring or sport touring as I get older and don't see more hard core off-roading in my future as I've lost most of my older riding buddies or they are incapable of doing those kind of rides anymore.
