We are a specialized manufacturing shop focused on high-quality wood stair treads, nosings, and custom fabrication. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Shop Associate to handle day-to-day production, machinery operation, and material handling.
This role involves working directly with the owner in a steady workspace focused on consistent, repeatable processes. It is an excellent opportunity for an individual with basic woodworking experience or a strong mechanical aptitude who prefers active, hands-on work over an office setting.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication, Post-Processing & Finishing (Primary Duty): Fabricating wood nosings, and sanding and preparing wood stair treads and components for final delivery. This group of duties represents the primary daily task required in the shop.
Material Handling: Unloading, staging, and moving cartons of pre-finished flooring materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Machinery Operation: Assisting with setup and operation of a ShopBot CNC router and industrial tooling.
Shop Upkeep: Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace, and managing dust collection.
Requirements
Ability to safely lift and maneuver 50 lb flooring cartons consistently throughout the day.
Familiarity with basic power tools and shop safety protocols.
Reliable transportation to the South Austin shop area.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail—stair components require tight tolerances and clean finishes.
Preferences
Experience in woodworking, construction, or a hands-on manufacturing shop environment.
Experience or strong interest in digital fabrication (CNC routers or design software like VCarve/Fusion 360) is a major plus.
Perks
Flexible schedule.
ShopBot CNC Router access after completed training.
Access to the shop and equipment for personal projects.
Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
