Vintage 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG in original cherry finish with Sideways Vibrola, one-piece Honduran Mahogany body/neck, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, trapezoid inlays, and 60s slim neck profile make this a player’s dream.
The original "Patent Applied For" humbucking pickups were replaced with the nearly identical, 60s "Patent Number" T-Top pickups which sound incredible. The pickups have “patent number“ stickers and L-tooling marks on the feet—all characteristic features of 1960s Gibson pickups. They also have the traditional braided Gibson lead wires. Both are fully functional and get strong readings: 7.9 and 7.98 k.
It’s all original except for the aforementioned pickups and a couple repairs. It received a control cavity repair and had its stop tailpiece removed and covered before I owned it. And then some years back it suffered a headstock fracture during a live video shoot (was accidentally knocked over while in a guitar stand) and so was sent to one of the top luthiers/repairmen in the NW, Kerry Char, who did a fantastic job on the repair (see pics). Ever since that time it has been kept in the studio for writing/recording. It's an amazing player w/excellent intonation/action.
Here are the notes I received from a tech who I recently had go thru the instrument:
-PAF pickups replaced with 60s T-Tops
-Headstock fracture and repair
-Control cavity repair
-Stop Tailpiece removed/covered
-All else appears original
-Sounds/plays great
There’s a reason why so many classic solos were played on this model: phenomenal vibe, tone, personality, character.
Comes with original hardshell case.
