Near mint. It has a tiny bit of staining from a suede guitar strap (made by Fender - so, presumably, lending the degree of staining that they consider optimal XD), & the finish chipped off of the bass ends of most of the high-octave frets. I looked into the latter phenomenon, which happened after a cold snap, & it seems that it’s a differential contraction thing that occurs in the cold. The chips proved self-limiting, though, in the proud tradition of lacquer.
It’s all original - no mods. My favorite telecaster pickups are AV/AVRIs, & this guitar’s pickups really strike me as quite similar (e.g. considerably closer than they are to the Tex Mex series pickups that they put on the road worn line) - I wouldn’t want to replace them. Somehow, I swear these uncompensated saddles even intonate acceptably, which I never thought I would hear myself say. I’ve got a single ply celluloid tortoiseshell pickguard on it that I got custom cut from an old scrap I had lying around. It just looks its best on a white blonde guitar, so I’ll include it in the sale if desired. I’ll definitely include the original, white pickguard, though, along with all other original parts (all currently installed on the guitar).
The neck is strong & straight, & allows whole step bends on the high string at all positions without choking. The neck pocket is the finest I’ve ever seen (I hope they’ve finally started threading the body holes for the neck mounting screws on some of the USA lines as they have with these premier Mexican lines; it’s the correction of the original weak spot universal to Fenders...)
The finish is more translucent than it looks in the pictures; my phone camera is just not doing it justice. I got it from a kind, mysterious guy from Lockhart who said he was the original owner, but also that he was “going acoustic”. I double-checked that he was sure he wanted to do so. Well, 8 years later, it looks as though I’ve gone acoustic myself, as an apartment dweller whose musician friends have all left town by now, & it’s time to offer it back up to someone who’ll play it more. 8 lb, 11 oz.
