DESCRIPTION:

"Arguably the best PRS ever!"

Studio and session musician David Grissom has worked with Paul Reed Smith for more than 20 years. As a result of this productive exchange between two perfectionists and guitar enthusiasts, the DGT (David Grissom Trem) model was born, based on the McCarty platform. The neck profile, frets and the arrangement of the control unit correspond exactly to Grissom's requirements. David Grissom and Paul Reed Smith devoted a great deal of attention to the development of the pickups. Grissom had a typical vintage sound in mind, based on Jimmy Page's guitar sound on the early Led Zeppelin albums. A year of extensive A/B testing with more than forty pickup sets later, the characteristic DGT humbuckers emerged with an authentic vintage tone that is second to none. An additional push/pull master tone control also enables effective pickup splitting with a variety of humbucker and single coil combinations. The whole thing is rounded off by an extremely stable PRS Gen III tremolo and high-quality Phase III locking mechanics.

A Flagship Masterpiece From David Grissom And PRS:
The PRS DGT solidbody guitar is one of the Paul Reed Smith company’s most acclaimed signature instruments; each aspect of the DGT design has been tested, studied, and calibrated through a joint effort between Paul Reed Smith and ace guitarist David Grissom. This beautiful guitar features a violin carved, figured flame maple 10-Top with a mahogany body that delivers big tone, plus a rosewood fingerboard, bird inlays, jumbo frets, and a 25-inch scale for perfect playability and effortless bends. You also get highly customized vintage voiced PAF humbucking pickups made in the USA, locking PRS tuners, and a custom control layout. From top to bottom, this is an elegant workhorse like no other. David himself put it best: “The DGT is a product a lot of miles down the road: a lot of gigs, a lot of records. It’s like picking up a vintage guitar.” Here at Sweetwater, we couldn’t agree more.

Elegant Tonewoods:
The DGT is essentially a hot-rodded PRS McCarty packed with personalized modifications and custom-voiced pickups. To give the DGT a rich yet balanced sound, PRS and David Grissom selected the tried-and-true combination of mahogany topped with deluxe 10-Top maple. The DGT's mahogany body gives you that warm, familiar tone that’s served rockers well for decades. The DGT’s maple 10-Top is carved from hand-selected figured maple, a perfect complement to mahogany’s rich deep sound that adds brightness, beauty, and an effortless response. Together, these tonewoods give you an incredibly balanced sound, complete with a smooth, lightweight finish for matchless comfort.

Comfortable DGT Neck Carve:
Whether you’re playing rhythm or leads, this guitar’s DGT neck carve is your ticket to rock. Sitting close to PRS’ acclaimed Pattern Regular neck carve, the DGT carve features modestly enhanced shoulders for a touch more substance than your standard “C” neck. The DGT carve especially improves playability on the lower strings; it’s ideal for versatile players, especially those who favor bluesy stylings that demand excellent playability at either end of the neck. And for comfort you can count on, the DGT features extra-tall jumbo frets for effortless action and rolled fingerboard edges for a feel that feels broken in — even right out of the box.

Texas-Tinged DGT Humbuckers:
Taking inspiration from the Lone Star State stomping grounds of David’s career, two onboard DGT humbuckers deliver vintage-inspired, smokey Texas-tinged tone for a must-hear take on the veritable vintage PAF. David and Paul Reed Smith personally spent a year testing and refining 40-plus pairs of pickups before narrowing the options down to these two masterpieces — each carefully crafted and assembled at PRS’ Maryland-based facility.

Custom Controls:
The DGT’s pickup controls are extremely customized and gig-ready. You get a master volume knob for each pickup, which makes switching and blending onstage a breeze; meanwhile, a push-pull master tone knob gives instant access to high-quality single-coil tones. The pickup selector is also scooted back behind the bridge, so you’ll never hit it with your strumming hand during a set. It all adds up to more proof that David’s “signature” on the PRS DGT is much more than just a rubber stamp.

Vintage Tone Out Of The Box:
The DGT (David Grissom Trem) is the result of more than 20 years of collaboration between Paul Smith and David Grissom. The DGT is based on the McCarty platform with a unique DGT neck shape, taller frets, special pickups, and a revised control layout. Grissom and Paul spent a year A/B-ing more than forty sets of pickups before nailing the vintage-voice of DGT humbuckers. When paired with individual volume controls for each pickup and a push/pull master tone control that operates the coil taps, DGT pickups provide versatility and articulation.
“The DGT is a product a lot of miles down the road: a lot of gigs, a lot of records. It’s like picking up a vintage guitar. It sounds like a vintage guitar, and out of the box it’s ready to go. There’s a whole lot of thought gone into this. The DGT is pretty perfect to me.” – David Grissom.
