Ex- Engineer moving to Texas in the not-too-distant future. (Austin)

Software engineer, single, straight, male, libertarian, looking to escape California sometime between now and the end of the year.

I've lived in my current location for 20 years, but alas, my landlord has retired and is moving back from Hong Kong, so if I've got to be uprooted, I might as well cut my tax burden while I'm at it.

Texas looks like a place where a lot of interesting things are going on. I've worked at Apple three times, so Austin seems like a logical place to look into. I love Silicon Valley, but the state around it isn't what it used to be.

Currently working on a startup to change the world (like everybody else), which I won't bore you with if you don't want to hear about it. I'm likely to be out of town for extended periods because of this.
I'm a pretty quiet guy, into classical, bluegrass, and Irish music. I love science fiction, opera, history and comedy.

Cooking is a hobby of mine. If you're into cooking too, I come well-equipped. I've even got the ice cream maker accessory for my KitchenAid mixer.

I'm an occasional night owl, but I probably won't wake you up. If you're into technology, philosophy and futurism, we can have some interesting conversations.

I'm highly allergic to smoke and cats, so I can't live in a house that has either. Looking for a house, not an apartment. I like to keep the AC on and the humidity down in the summer.

Most dogs love me. Don't rely on me to keep plants or fish alive.

I do have quite a lot of stuff, and I'll need to figure out what to bring with me and what to leave behind.

If I sound compatible with your home and housemates, give me a yell, tell me what what kind of place you've got, and let's see what develops. If you don't have a place yet, and are interested in sharing costs, I'm open to possibilities.

Thanks for your attention.
