Overhead Garage Door Installer (with Welding
Experience)

you will install, service and repair residential and commercial doors and
openers. Diagnosing issues, aligning tracks and springs, and ensuring
smooth, secure operation on every job. Each day offers variety, problem-

for customers, Install, service, and repair residential and commercial
overhead/rolling steel doors, door operators, and dock equipment.
Fabricate and weld brackets, frames, and supports as needed. Ensure
safe, code-compliant, high-quality work and excellent customer service on
every job.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation:
Install sectional and rolling steel doors, high-speed doors, fire
doors, grilles, dock levelers, seals/shelters, and door operators.
Set tracks, torsion/extension springs, cables, drums, hinges,
rollers, bearings, and shaft assemblies.
Align, balance, and commission doors and operators; program
remotes, keypads, photo-eyes, safety edges, and control stations.
Layout, measure, cut, and anchor angle iron, strut, and tracks to
steel, masonry, or wood; drill and set mechanical or epoxy
anchors.
• Service and Repair:
Diagnose and correct issues with springs, cables, operators,
controls, limit settings, and safety devices.
Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections; complete
fire door annual drop tests per NFPA 80/105 and document
results.
Emergency after-hours service on a rotational basis as needed.
• Welding and Fabrication:
Fabricate/repair brackets, frames, track supports, and
header/angle assemblies using MIG (primary), Stick, and/or TIG.
Weld and fit light structural components, 10–3/8" thickness typical;
cut, grind, and finish to spec.
Read/interpret shop drawings and blueprints; verify field
measurements and adjust/fabricate accordingly.
• Safety and Compliance:
Follow OSHA, company safety policies, lockout/tagout, fall
protection, and rigging best practices.
Ensure installations comply with UL 325, DASMA, IDA guidelines,
and manufacturer requirements.
Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites and vehicles.
• Documentation and Customer Service:
Use mobile apps to capture photos, job notes, parts/labor, and
customer signatures.
Communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and the office
regarding scope, change orders, and timelines.
• Tools and Equipment:
Operate scissor/boom lifts, forklifts, hoists, drills, impact drivers,
torque wrenches, grinders, band saws, torches, and welding
machines.
Perform basic maintenance on tools and welding equipment.
Qualifications:
• Experience:
2+ years as an overhead/garage door installer or technician; commercial
experience preferred.
1+ year hands-on welding/fabrication (MIG required; Stick/TIG a plus).
2-5 years of commercial overhead garage door experience

Welding and torch cutting experience.
Forklift proficiency necessary.
• Technical Skills:
Proficient with torsion/extension spring systems, shaft assemblies, and
door/operator alignment.
Comfortable with electrical low-voltage terminations, limit adjustments,
photo-eyes, and safety circuits.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and interpret manufacturer
manuals.
Competent in measuring, leveling, squaring, and layout;
concrete/masonry anchoring.
Licenses/Certifications (preferred or willing to obtain):
Valid driver’s license with clean MVR; DOT medical card as required.
OSHA 10/30, aerial lift, and forklift certifications.
AWS D1.1 or equivalent welding certification preferred.
IDA/DASMA/Manufacturer certifications a plus.
NFPA 80 drop-test training a plus.
Soft Skills:
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving; detail-oriented and safety-
focused.
Professional communication and customer service; team player.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Service, repair, and install loading dock levelers, sectional overhead
doors, rolling steel doors, commercial high-speed doors, etc.
Confirm daily work orders with dispatch.
Retrieve products from suppliers.
Safely transport and deliver products to job sites.
Inspect the job site to confirm any potential issues.
Install products efficiently and professionally.
Deliver great customer service.
Executes safety forms and procedures on all job sites.
Work on ladders at all heights (8' - 24') as well as scissor lifts and aerial
platforms up to 40’.
Remove and haul off old doors and openers.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
Lift and carry 75+ lbs., frequent bending, kneeling, and overhead work.
Comfortable working at heights on ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
Work indoors/outdoors in varying weather, exposure to noise, dust, and
metal fabrication environments.
Use of PPE including gloves, eye/ear protection, respirators as required.
Schedule and Travel:
Full-time; typical Monday–Friday with occasional overtime and on-call
rotation.
Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm.
Competitive hourly wage is $28.00 to $34.00 per hour plus overtime.
Must be a U. S. Citizen.
Must pass a background check, absolutely no felonies and pass a drug
screen test.
